Story kind of had a pointless and preachy ending. Like it tried being deep just for the sake of being "deep", without actually knowing how to get there, not allowing itself to justify to the player why it needs to do so. The open-ended "Where's the actual Putrid Shark? WHOOPS GAME OVER YOU'LL NEVER KNOW" and the fact that in the end game you can only fight the dolphin, which results in a pointless babble about how pointless all of it is, not explaining how they got there, why there's an angry mob, etc. All leaves a bad taste in my mouth. Obviously just a badly-written "Look how deep we can be! Morals are stupid! And you're stupid for having them!" Artsy-Fartsy half-game.

"story had a pointless ending" thats the whole idea

I'm glad you were able to read and respond to that tiny excerpt from my entire analysis. I'd advise you to read and respond to the rest of it as well. Thanks.

You must be fun at parties.

Thank you. I am the life of the party.

Why?

I get the impression the ending is way less serious than it seems. In fact, I'm almost convinced that the non-fight options were at least partially generated by a markov chain. So a half-game, but not very artsy-fartsy.

Still better than most NES game endings.

That aside, everyone and everything else in this game was super fun and likable and I'd love to see it expanded into something more.
