That was a really cool mechanic, though some of the jumps felt fairly finicky. I think you underused the enemy-freezing mechanic a bit, though.

If you decide to pursue this as a larger project, I think it'll be important to progressively teach the player the various jumps. I spent a bit too much time on the first few jumps failing over and over, and almost quit until I realized you can dash to the lantern before it lands, not just after.

A 'call back the lantern now' button would be nice too. (Might need to restrict to one dash per jump accordingly.) It was kind of a pace-killing missing a throw and having to wait for the lantern to come back.

Great music and visuals!

Hey, thanks for playing and for the feedback. Always appreciate it.

Cool atmosphere. I really liked the music. The lantern throwing mechanic is fun too.

Thank you so much! I'm super glad you enjoyed it (:

Really nice! I enjoyed it a lot  but I have some tips:

- Jump could be mapped on up arrow, would be a little more intuitive but this is minor

-The game would work better as just a platformer, the throw and follow mechanic was really well made and enjoyable so platforming sections were very nice and with some refining I could see a full game made out of it, but the enemy freezing and moving around is more tedious and annoying and adds some unnecessary complexity to the game that doesnt really add enjoyability to it.

-At some point  a door was just locked and i had no idea what to do, froze the enemy tried to climb the walls throw lantern on everything, nothing happened. This might be a bug or just something i missed but either way something needs to be either fixed or made more clear to the player.

- It would be nice for the story to be in text before the game starts or something along those lines since i can see effort was put into it but its just on the game description that not a lot of people will spend time reading.

Overall really good and could be expanded into something more that's why I took the time to go in depth on how it can be even better. Really great job!

Hope you can also check out my game :D

Thanks for the feedback! To open the door you have to drag the enemy onto the button, the first enemy is already placed on top the button and only requires petrifying them. We probably shouldve tried to make the controls clearer.

The lantern throw and dash is very nice concept, it seemed kinda bad at first but once I got used to it I was trying to find ways to skip some platforms.
Also the background art in the beginning is beautiful but it seems like you didn't have enough time to add backgrounds near the end.
Overall a very interesting concept.

Thank you for playing! I'm glad you liked the idea.

I really think that the art style and light is beautiful, but i didnt quite get what i had to do! The music was fitting and calming but i would have wished for an options menu and the movement explanation. I overall enjoyed the Game.

Yeah there definitely some improvements we couldve made.  If I get the opportunity to, I'd love to add a sequence towards the beginning that actually shows how the lantern throwing and dashing mechanic works. Sorry for the confusion going into the game, I'm happy you enjoyed it though!

Thank you!

Very pretty, but I had some problems with the controls (key mapping) and didnt really get far because I didnt get how to proceed :D

Developer(+1)

It takes a moment to get used to the controls. If you can't get the lantern to throw in a specific way make sure you hold the arrow key slightly before you throw the lantern. You should give it another try though, and if you still have problems it would be great if you can specify where exactly you're having issues!

Lmk how far you got and which part was confusing and ill find a way to patch it! If you can share a screenshot that would be awesome <3

I would be glad if you changed the controls a bit tho

is there anything in particular, about the controls, that you specifically find finicky? I'd love to find a way to improve them overall.

okay so first of all, you cant do a double jump while you hold the right or left key, which is a problem because thats how most games work and thats what most people are used to, also if you stop running the player keeps sliding a bit which makes the part with the short tiles harder, but I dont want to complain in a mean way, you guys made a great game and  I hope you win.

Hmm, as the game is right now you should be able to do a double jump while holding left or right, the platforming is predicated on you being able to do that. However, perhaps you're walking off of the platform as you do your initial jump (so it thinks youre doing a double jump), which is actually something I want to fix so that you have a few frames of leeway (games like Celeste do this). You're totally right about the sliding, I can make that a bit tighter for sure.

Thank you for the feedback! I'm glad that you think the game is great and we'd love to make it even better. I'll try to incorporate your feedback (:
