I really liked the feeling of going outside and seeing a figure in the distance, that was moving strangely... No seriously, that was a stand out moment for me, but I kind of wish there had been a sprint button then, or maybe show that the wind is blowing into the player, keeping them from moving quickly. I feel like that would have made these monsters outside just a bit scarier, instead of having my running around them. But I did love how I could see them in the distance, and I could tell they were encircling me!

Wow I love the graphics and atmosphere of this game! The style is very unique and the distortion really adds to the disorientation of the character. The sound design was good too, nothing felt too unbalanced, and the voices were perfect. The switch between settings was really well done, and I liked that the inside environment had a couple of dead ends that forced you to turn back and kill some enemies. That was one problem I had - the first time I played I spooked at the sudden appearance of the mutants and managed to run past all of them while also finding the correct way out. It was a breeze to get to the end point on that run, but a bit more difficult when I took the time later to try and explore the level.

I found killing the enemies to be a bit strange though; I think it was about 2 shots to down an enemy, but I could never hit them with the knife enough to get them to die before me. A bit more feedback for when hitting/hit would probably help this - it was hard to tell in the darkness if I had landed a blow, and it doesn't look like there was any real indication of how much health was left for the player.

Overall a really good submission that definitely stands out!

Wow! Thank you for the detailed feedback and positive comments!

Yes the knife is broken at this point haha we are aware of it.

You need to headshot the mutants- a headshot is a one shot kill - However the laser pointer gets a little buggy when the mutants get up close

Thanks again! Ill be sure to play your game soon - it looks kind of similar to ours !

I'm not the most accurate person which is probably why I didn't realise headshots were one shot kills haha. Let me know if you finish this game up, I'd love to give it another go!

I wasn't able to get far cus I scare easily and my aim was already pretty bad (really makes me wonder why I joined a horror jam in the first place lol). But I really like the art style you guys went with! The slightly abstracted classic 3d graphics really let your mind wander and fill in the details and the sound design was also really good. I could definitely see this doing well as a full game (Though idk if i'd be brave enough to play through it)

Developer

thanks for the positive feedback! We are happy our game managed to atleast scare you πŸ˜€

I was so scared that moved only throwing the light first.

Nice use of the PSX, it felt like this game ¨The Thing¨ for a moment, also the Intro very cinematic

The only suggestion I have is to build a little bit of momentum for the player, maybe some basic looting first instead of having all the things equiped... and the encounters make them less often .

One week is a short time, but you guys acompished alot!.

Developer

Thanks for the well thought out feedback!

Yes I totally agree with you- the game lacked a bit of build up in the gameplay section of it

Thanks!

great entry, has that "doom 3" gameplay scary feeling of switching between a flashlight and a gun to defend yourself that i like a lot, but with a "metro" vibe. Also the game is really pretty, the low poly models and the general vibe works well.

Some Feedback: i think the UI doesn't match the cool aesthetics of the game, looks a bit bland. Also the menus are broken with my current screen resolution (1366*768), with many buttons and info being off screen. Also i think it needs some visual indicator for the health.

Had a lot of fun with it, the change in scenery at the end was a nice surprise and running around with a knife because all my ammo runned out was an adrenaline inducing moment :P. Also the intro elevates the experience a lot

hey! yeah the UI didnt have the luxury of a f acelift due to our time constraints.

But thanks for the feedback- we put alot of hardwork into this little project

Awesome game.

The sound design was great... The mixing on the voice + the acting lead to believable voice lines that were a treat for a jam game. Difficult to pull off. I also thought the throwable light mechanic was neat, wish it gave off more light but I could see how that could hurt the aesthetic as well. Also thought having multiple environments was awesome. It was a fun change of pace going from clearing dark/close corners to headshotting from a distance.

Good work!

Developer

Thanks so much for giving us feedback!

I love the retro aesthetic! And the art design in general. Voice acting and sound production is way higher quality than I would've expected for a jam game.
The level design is a little confusing, especially with how dark it is (but I think that's intentional) (there were also just some slots in the walls that I wasn't sure what the point of was).
The knife doesn't have much feedback, I couldn't tell if I was stabbing anything sometimes.
The only bug I found was that if you hug a wall, the laser sight clips through and trails off infinitely
Awesome game! Worth checking out!

Developer

Thank you for the feedback! Yeah the level design can be confusing- we planned on making it less samey however the time constraints got to us

And yes the stabbing is a big problem currently and we will fix that in later builds!

Thanks again !

Hey! dev here. Just a heads up this current build of the game is quite difficult so try to place headshots on the enemies and be careful...they have a tendency to sneak up on ya!

PS : When you toss the chemlight you are able to pick it back up again using "E"
