In what way does your game fit the theme?
It fits the theme when the player has to stay with his teammate and if he slows down and is out of the game they both lose

Did you write all the code yourself and made all the assets from scratch?
I created my own art and used the help of tutorials since this is my second game.

The game itself could be fun to play if there were spawn points and the jumping of the character is  a bit too fast but overall nice game.

The teammate doesn't really add anything he just slows you down, maybe add some buff when both the player and the teammate are close to each other like a higher jump or more speed.

  • The player has no walking animations

  • When the teammate falls they fall much slower and their walking animation is still used

  • I understand the theme interpretation but I feel like the teammate actually impairs you rather than making you “stronger”

  • The enemy’s jumping movement doesn’t feel smooth

  • Could do with a lot more polish. For example, visual (particles, more animations) and aural feedback (jumping, death, etc)

  • I wish you could pause the game

  • I’m not a fan of the art. It feels very ms-painty. It is pretty readable though. I’d recommend using a pre-made palette from a site like Lospec

  • This is really difficult. I think some checkpoints would be good

  • I fell inside a tile at one point but I didn’t get a screenshot in time

  • Overall, pretty good for your second game! Well done :)

Hey, i've made it pretty far, *wait for the water blast to finish and you have 4 seconds window*!.  The game would benifit from some checkpoints and a health bar.

Developer

Im doing an update today so dont worry you will have checkpoints

The music was extremely fun. I also liked the art style, gave me nostalgia for old flash games I used to play! Some advice as listed before is some way player progression such as checkpoints

I would love it if you want to check out our game: https://itch.io/jam/brackeys-5/rate/929153

The idea is fun, the game isn't too difficult (which is good). I like the music, a bit borring after some time but the rythm is there.

As for the gameplay, it's fun, but slow and movements are a bit too "soft", maybe crank up the player acceleration. As other have pointed, try to add check points.

I encountered a few bugs:

  • The man at the bottom of the screen fly when the camera goes up in level 2
  • I couldn't end the level 2, you fall but the camera doesn't follow you and you don't die, then the other character goes to the left. The blue portal next to him doesn't work
  • If you move against a wall, you can't jump .

The art is... not the strongest point xD but don't worry, you'll get better (practice is the key)

Somes tips for your art:

  • At first, simplify things, use few colors and use simple shapes. let the creativity of your player do the work, you will have more time to focus on composition. A glowing cube of color in a white world on a black background can give a really good result.
  • Make more variations, your background is literraly the same texture as your tile, and you have only one tile type per level. You have to break repetition of paterns,  rotating objects helps a lot.
  • When animating isn't your thing, use the game engine, instead of an animation, make the character wooble left-right when moving, strech it when it jumps, flaten it when it lands.  It's cheap and it give good results.

Always consider to continue working on your games, even if the jam ended, it's a good way to improve !

Thanks for the feedback i will work on those bugs and suggestions to day

Pretty decent game but a checkpoint system would of been nice, also an upgrade on the art and animations for both players would be nice, good game though
