If you're ever interested, read the book Flatland (or watch the movie). There's a bit where the character travels to a 1 dimensional world, that simply consists of lines living on an infinite line. That might explain things better. Essentially, to them, the world only has a forward and a backward, nothing else. They can't perceive a 2nd dimension, since it doesn't exist in their world.
