The writing is exquisite. And I actually like that you kept the presentation minimal, only adding text colouring when it really enhanced the story.
And what a story! I too loved the intentional indirectness and the lush mystery that created. It made the gradual realisation spectacularly hard hitting. I don't think I'd be overstating it to say that, compared to the rest of the entries, this is the most powerful use of 300 words.
