Yeah that’s neat to see how people can use those features creatively!

For the Xianxia/Wuxia theme - I guess it’s a cultural thing 😆. You see, I am a big fan of that genre myself so for the first demo of the visual novel framework I thought maybe just use an oriental style. It’s easier to imagine those fantasy plots for me. Also a friend of mine was originally trying to make a “palace drama” kind of visual novel - that’s how we got started (that one hasn’t gone anywhere though, unfortunately 😂). As it goes, it’s tempting to simply implement some stories from Dream of Red Chamber if not trying to be original and just want to make some samples 🤔

FYI, I was asking AI to find “free visual novel assets with permissive licence for commercial use” for my style and got suggested your assets along with other people’s. I like how your assets are quite comprehensive and customizable - actual character builders rather than just single statics. Good job!

Aaah, that makes sense! Xianxia and Wuxia can get quite deep too with intrigue, so it's very understandable. There's something very beautiful about a palace setting too. To be frank, simply retelling an age-old tale works too. It's something people recognize and can take to - very safe, hehe~

Aww, thanks! I have static characters too, since I tend to draw them flat sometimes, which is much quicker and easier. Layers get maddening to work with so I have a lot of separate PSD files for the character builder ones; it's a different experience when making them. It's very interesting to see how you've used and edited even the static ones to suit your mood and narrative, though.

Speaking of which......... are you by chance entering any Game Jams on the site using your new Novella framework? I was just reminded of it because it is Xianxia, which can steep heavily into mythos and legend (kind of like the red thread of fate, celestial fairies and immortals) - it may kind of work with the upcoming Once Upon A Time VN Jam, for example. Though it's something to ask the host, since legends are not always considered fairy tales.

That’s a fantastic idea! Game jams would be a good way to test our visual novel framework. I will look into it - though at the moment we have other priorities.

I totally understand the work involved in making assets customizable and thus truly appreciate you sharing them! I made a web utility that allows people to quickly browse and experiment with your asset packs: https://methodox.itch.io/character-customizer-2d All credits are given. Please let me know if that works for you: it doesn’t pack the assets in them but downloads your uploaded zips on-demand.

Interesting to learn that legends are not always considered fairy tales~

Aha, good luck! They're definitely great for testing new stuff out! Yeah, apparently legends, fantasy and fairy tales can be different from each other. That's what the host of the Jam says anyway - they're the expert! Gonna take their word for it!

My pleasure - and oh my, that's interesting! I was wondering why I was getting downloads of my packs although I was receiving 0 visits the same day. So thiiiis was why! I thought I was going crazy!! Mystery sooolved! 😂😂😂

I tried it out; smart of you to make a web version! Life's easier when there's a browser version of something, hehehe~ I'll link to it in my collections page~

Ha! I was suspecting you would see lots of downloads 😆

That's actually pretty clever considering old packs do get updated with new stuff sometimes. 👀

Out of curiosity, is there an option to zoom in or out while using its editor mode?
