Man, I'm reading some of the devlogs I've skipped (which happens to be most of them) and it sounds like he's trying to make a fucking DND campaign or something.
Satiation? Cleanliness? Traits? Mindsets? Dice rolls?
It sounds like he's shifting the game towards a more extreme (or I guess realistic?) sandbox game similar to Lucky Paradox (Lucky Paradox is not applicable for the realistic sandbox example, though it is more realistic than some others but not that close to what I've read in the devlogs). Which yeah, sure. I guess there isn't... too much wrong with that. Some of those sandbox games can be good, but then quite a few that I've played are incredibly grindy and annoying.
I mean, you know how badly my wrist hurts playing some of those? Click to leave bedroom, click to go to hallway, go to character's room, click talk button, hold skip to skip repeated dialogue and get +points, leave character's room, go downstairs, find other character in house, talk to them... You get the point, click to do everything and each click is in a different location and it takes like 20 to 30 clicks to do a quarter of what you could do in an in-game day.
Some have fast travel which reduces the amount of clicks by like 2... But that doesn't stop you from having to spend like 50 days to grind for cash. And the loop for that is: travel to work, click work button, hold skip, click work button, skip, work button, skip, sleep button, skip, and repeat.
Then there's the "no grinding for relationships" thing he's got going on which sounds like there won't be point totals or whatever, but no there are. It's just that you can't repeatedly interact with a character to cap out their relationship until whatever event increases the cap. Instead you're forced to wait for the next day for like a singular point with the larger events giving more.
And a travel system? Days aren't broken into flat time slots like morning, noon, afternoon, and evening. They instead have actual hours and apparently change when morning or evening starts depending on the month. Sounds cool I guess, but there's going to have to be a Skyrim/Bethesda game (easiest example) style "skip straight to X time" thing for it to not be at least mildly annoying. But that travel system thing I mentioned? Yeah, traveling to each location takes time, realistic sure, but still moderately annoying. Especially factoring in that the weather fucks with it too. Now you've basically got to plan out your entire day so you'd have enough time to do everything you want to do and hope that whatever the weather is that day doesn't double your travel times. It also sounds like you get penalized for being up at night through stat debuffs and random encounters.
The RNG for the dice rolls are seeded too so you can't save scum and might get fucked by random chance. So that's fun too (sarcasm). But don't worry because failing a roll might result in something "even better" than if you succeeded. Which I'm assuming will only be for rare cases only and 99 times out of 100 you're going to get "Blood Frenzy" instead (Mewgenics reference for ya, the context is that it's a mostly permanent debuff that usually fucks you over in a roguelike game.) "Scene's still continue but a fail might come at a cost or be neutral whereas a pass gives bonuses." Cool... Depends on what the cost entails but that could be annoying too.
The point of me mentioning all of this is simple:
Is this a VN or a damn RPG at this point? You also can't even call this a remake either. Hell even the RE4 remake didn't add too much to the game. I think the main difference in gameplay mechanics specifically was the better/more modern camera/movement and the fact that you could parry attacks. (few other changes but that's pretty much the big 2 that I noticed the most in my playthrough.)
*sigh* It's just... You know that feeling you get when you haven't played a game like Call of Duty, R6 Siege, or Fortnite for about 2 to 5 years? You randomly decide to come back to the game and it's just completely unrecognizable? Yeah, that's the feeling I'm getting from this game so far. I'd have to actually play it to come up with an actual worthwhile opinion, but it feels like its going to be a while before we actually get a playable build that isn't 10 seconds long AND includes all of these new mechanics and shit. Also I don't even know if I want to play it anyways with the art style that I still find weird and unnerving. (As well as suspicious as to how the art style won despite the general consensus everywhere being that it sucked.)
Oh, also in case anyone cares, that still-pretty-new Onimusha game fucking rocked and I loved it. The animations and combat (specifically the bosses) were really good. Could've used more basic enemy variety (as well as made them more aggressive), but it was still pretty good. Main villains were great, final boss was really great. Overall some pretty good shit. (Worth noting, it's also the only Onimusha game I've ever played so... yeah. Take that into consideration too.)
