This is super charming and fun! A really nice homage.
For a future update could you do a pass on the map movement/scrolling? I don't know exactly WHAT should change but walking around gives me a kind of motion sickness feeling.
I believe the motion sickness may come from the sprites being rendered with one frame latency compared to the rest of the map, so they don't exactly follow the scrolling. I've found a fix that I will definitely push as soon as I'm able to!
