Thank you for the critique.
I'm actually a little bit curious about this. He shouldn't really be getting much of an advantage in terms of damage by having increased every damage stat. If he was using a dagger, only his agility stat would be calculated for the damage while strength and intelligence would only be for stun and heal chance per hit. Someone with the same agility but no strength or intelligence should be hitting for the same amount if holding the same dagger. Was he perhaps a higher overall level? Could it also be possible that you selected Hard Mode while he did not? You can check if you're on Hard Mode by pressing next in the status menu.
Naw, I checked that and it wasn't the case. Also I was wrong and it wasn't str/agi/int he did, it was agi/int/res, and he just ignored strength and tenacity entirely. And from my further testing it turns out that strength and tenacity are just bad stats that make you weaker if you try to level them. Tenacity makes no noticeable difference, tested with 20 tenacity versus 0, enemies did the same damage and I couldn't even tell they were dropping more gold. Strength weapons have such low accuracy rating that even a weapon with half the damage has higher "Damage per turn" just because they have 100% accuracy, and the chance to stun is so negligible you can't depend on it. So, thats why I was struggling because I wasted a lot of points investing in two useless stats. I changed my build to his and proceeded to start rapidly steamrolling the game too. Even started a new playthrough on hard mode and it also trivializes hardmode, the game just becomes a lot easier if you avoid the bad stats.
Tenacity doesn't increase your evasiveness but it should increase the defence provided by armour. Is it possible that an NPC gave misinformation about tenacity increasing evasiveness? I'm noticing that a few NPCs give misinformation due to them having dialogue written much earlier in development that I'd totally forgot about.
I understand. It seems like you just need both a lot of tenacity points and good armour for it to do a lot. At this point it becomes more useful. It seems like keeping stats even across the board is not a bad strategy. Maybe if you use spells all the time maxing intelligence, resourcefulness and tenacity would work well too.
It doesn't, for example against the Richdrake boss on my first character I was wearing full dire armor on a tenacity build and he was hitting me just as hard as he was hitting my boyfriend using a full damage build and using the Soft set instead, he had 2 less defense then me, and 0 tenacity versus my 22 tenacity, dragon hit me for the exact same amount of damage. IT's just not a good stat, or not working. Going full DPS really makes the game easy, I couldn't beat the dragon on normal difficulty using a tenacity build with dire armor at level 20, I came back on hard difficulty and beat him at level 14 in soft armor with 1 tenacity, lol. An absolute steamroll.
I'm glad you found a build that works for you.
Was you wearing armour while testing tenacity? Tenacity increases the defence provided by armour. If you was wearing nothing then tenacity isn't doing much. It's effects are more noticeable alongside armour with high defence. In retrospective I probably should have advertised that better. I will admit that the gold increase provided by tenacity is incredibly low and is more of a leftover effect from much earlier in development which I decided to keep in just to spice the stat up a little more.
Strength weapons do have lower accuracy. I tried to balance them out by giving them higher damage but I didn't want to go overboard because of the wind charm (which guarantee’s a hit) possibly making them too strong. There's always room for more balance tweaks though.
