I’ve been playing this game for a long time, and I honestly really love how it’s designed! However, it has its pros and cons:

  • Wolf-sheep: I loved this! It reminds me a lot of the saying “A wolf in sheep’s clothing,” but here it was turned into an actual mechanic! I don’t know if it’s just me, but when you launch the wolf into the air, its sound effect glitches a bit. This might be because the game runs in a browser (since it was made in Godot, a release for Android or PC would have been awesome!).

  • Somewhat frustrating controls: At first, herding the sheep into the pen is fun… but only 40 seconds? If the goal was to make the game difficult, then fair enough! But if it wasn’t, I think the short time limit is a problem because of the following reasons:

  1. It’s not very clear where the sheep are going: When you bark at them, sometimes they follow the mouse, and sometimes it depends on where you bark from. This ends up being confusing, and sometimes they just go wherever they want!
  2. The tight time limit: Since we only have 40 seconds and need to pen at least 9 sheep, it gets frustrating because when you bark at them, they sometimes SPLIT UP! It’s basically a domino effect: first we have the time issue, then point 1, and now point 2 where the sheep scatter, making it even more complicated and frustrating.
  3. There are times when the sign indicates the sheep are up ahead, but when you go up, it tells you they are down, and so on. This felt cheap because, well… you shouldn’t tell the player they are up and lie to their face, making them waste 10 precious seconds. It makes it so you can’t trust the signs or your own sheep.
  • Art: I love the simplistic style of the game! It reminds me of the cartoons I used to watch on TV.

  • Music: I have to congratulate Katuria for making such an absolute banger! It’s a simple yet beautiful song—short but effective, lovely, and cheerful! It’s the kind of song I would save to listen to over and over again just to study how a few notes can make a track feel so… nostalgic. Combined with the game’s art style, it gives me an emotional feeling that, for some reason, I just don’t know how to explain.

Honestly, the game was good! My favorite parts will always be the music and the art. It’s always important to balance music and gameplay because they are the core elements (art style will always depend on the person, but it doesn’t need to be fancy to make a good game as long as it’s clear). ⭐⭐⭐🌟

I noticed the game is in English, but at least I could understand it well enough to play! In case you need to translate everything into Spanish, it would look like this:

  • Code: Código
  • Art: Arte
  • Audio: Audio (it’s written the same way)
  • To move: Para moverse
  • (Left-click icon) Or (Space) to bark: O (Espacio) para ladrar
  • Some sheeps are wolves. (Right-click icon) One to bite it: Algunas ovejas son lobos. (Icono de clic derecho) para morderlos.
  • Herd the flock into the pen before time runs out: Lleva a las ovejas al corral antes de que se acabe el tiempo.

So delighted to be applauded for the audio work of this simple game! Actually at first they told me to write something like celtic music but I tried once then failed to do so. Later I started a new track with a few chords and sliced them into tradtional triple style, then added several Nexus instruments to create the casual vibe. Honestly I'm specialized in EDM and it's my first time to write such genre of a song. Thank you for playing!

Hello!

Thank you so much for playing the game and for leaving such an incredibly detailed and heartfelt review! Getting feedback like this is exactly why I love participating in game jams😊.

We thought there were going to be tons of "Papers, Please" games made by others, so we just wanted to make something more cozy and delightful to make ourselves happy (and we did have a ton of fun during the dev phase hehe).

The art is heavily inspired by the movie The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales (a perfect idea from our artist DAZHIYASHU), and we drew inspiration from games such as Untitled Goose Game, Stardew Valley, etc. Our composer Katuria was amazing, and all the audio ideas add a lot of flavor to the overall experience😉

You make a fair point about the difficulty, and I fully understand! The balancing definitely suffered a bit: we ran out of time to properly balance the difficulty and the 'fun' of successfully spotting and catching a wolf by the end of the jam, but we can definitely work a bit more on it post-jam! The dog emits a 'shock wave' from its location when barking, so all the sheep are propelled away from it. To better herd the sheep, I would normally run up and down around the flock and bark all the time, kinda similar to how sheepdogs herd sheep in the real world! And thanks for pointing out the sheep indicator! It malfunctions when the sheep are sparse, as it points to the center of mass of all the sheep. We may fix it post-jam.

And wow, thank you so much for taking the time to write out those translations! I really appreciate the effort, and it's so helpful!

Thanks again for the review and for taking the time to help us improve!
