if I should go back and finish it or just give up on all of this and just go try to find a job with my degree
That is a false dilemma.
Generall advice to all people considering such:
Do not quit your job. Do not quit on finding a job. Do not rely on having an income as an independent game developer.
If you have not worked in the industry as a non indie game developer, you basically know nothing about this. Even if you can code, you know nothing about publishing, nothing about marketing. Nothing about running a business.
To do so, is about as sane as taking your money and buying lottery tickets. Less sane, actually. For lottery you know the chances and you actually can win by accident. If you try doing independant game developing as a work, you might be blind to your own inability and the worst part: even people that know all the craft and do have experience do fail. Small game studios fail all the time. Even some bigger ones. So if professionals fail at this, why should an amateur suddenly be successful?
What you should do is treat it as a hobby. If you have a job, you still can put a few hours into this each week. And if you seek a job, the skills you might aquire doing your hobby, might even be helpful for a job - but you should not stop seeking a job, in the hopes to make it as a developer.
You should only think about turning your hobby into your job, if your game development actually turns out to generate money for you. Then you are in a position to decide if it is worth the risk to go independant.
Indie game developer is another word for unemployed game developer.
