i know Python and pygame quite well, do you think i should try Ren’Py?

Of course! Speaking from experience,  any combination of the three can blend seamlessly thanks to all three being Python built! And Ren'Py is a bit easier to get the hang of because you don't have to build everything from scratch if you don't want to - the main work is just making the visuals and writing the story (which is lowkey structured like either a novel (NVL mode) or a play (ADV mode)).

okay! I’ll try Ren’Py. Sounds like fun anyway, writing is one of my hobbies

Wonderful! If you love writing, then Ren'Py can definitely be a really cool medium for you to work with!

do you know any tutorials or documentation possibly

There is the official Ren'Py page: https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/index.html

And I have also written this post on different types of visual novel choices: https://gamejolt.com/p/so-on-tap-for-today-i-want-to-go-over-a-few-simple-choice...

There is also the RenPy subreddit where devs discuss the engine: https://www.reddit.com/r/RenPy/

me, reading the docs: “This is Python?!?” Nevertheless, it looks pretty simple!

It really is, once you go through the tutorial game a couple of times! It was really helpful!
