okay! I’ll try Ren’Py. Sounds like fun anyway, writing is one of my hobbies

Wonderful! If you love writing, then Ren'Py can definitely be a really cool medium for you to work with!

do you know any tutorials or documentation possibly

There is the official Ren'Py page: https://www.renpy.org/doc/html/index.html

And I have also written this post on different types of visual novel choices: https://gamejolt.com/p/so-on-tap-for-today-i-want-to-go-over-a-few-simple-choice...

There is also the RenPy subreddit where devs discuss the engine: https://www.reddit.com/r/RenPy/

me, reading the docs: “This is Python?!?” Nevertheless, it looks pretty simple!

It really is, once you go through the tutorial game a couple of times! It was really helpful!

uh, one question, how easy is it to make branching storylines in Ren’Py?

That depends on how much you want to happen as a result of a choice.

The documentation should provide the structure for writing out the choice paths, and I also suggest reading up on what are called "persistent flags" - things that can switch on or off at any point in the game and stay that way (there are also "default" variables - they tie to a save file but reset each time you start a new game instead of loading a save).
