I remember the same issue with my laptop while it still worked with one of the previous game versions.
I've never heard of the problem before, so I'll see if anyone else has but you can always make a back-up of your saves by going into %appdata% and looking for moncurse
it's only ever occurred to me while the device in question was plugged in so Desktops might just fare worse overall to power cuts.
