I just spammed the first unit from O menu in main base, they went randomly somewhere and after I saw that I took a campfire on map as I was a bit lost. When I went there, I saw that crystal started to accumulate, so I spammed a bit more of them. Then, I went around and guess what? I was confused and lost as at the start and nothing was happening. And the big empty map was not helping :)

Oh that makes a lot more sense! As a little tip, you can unlock and use other units through the U menu, which can make a pretty big difference compared to just spamming the starting unit. You can also use M to open the map, drag around with the right mouse button, and left click somewhere to send your selected units there.

The procedural generation can sometimes also create areas where you don't run into many enemies for a while, so I can definitely see how that could make the early game feel a bit empty.

I definitely need to add an in-game tutorial explaining this stuff properly. Hopefully you’ll give it another shot sometime :)

I replayed with all this information and now the game difficulty was indeed OK, I died once I found 4th campfire. All good so far, but the map coordination is not clear for me, I selected them and then clicked left click, there is no indicator then they are going there or smth. And I think they are not, seems like they are doing explore/defend things and that's it. Also, on macOS it consumes all my GPU memory and my M1 PRO is just cooking. So optimization is bad and the UX too. The graphics are OK as any time could be changed, but the experience needs more polish, as there is not clear what's going on until you know the game. More stats, more indicators, more effects. I'll change may rate from 2 stars to 3, due to working concept, but it needs more polish even without graphics, just indicators. Another example just remembered is the map, maybe show a fog or something, where you was and where not, also keep the track of enemy campfires maybe there. As I saw how my units went near one campfire, it appeared on map and after disappeared as they died or something. But for me is hard to keep track of it. I need notifications that someone died, I need to see on map some dots that something is there, to see which territory was already explored and which not.
I understand it's work in progress, so those are more my ideas for a nice game. For now is 3 stars.
P.S.
I'll keep checking the game from time to time.
