That rule is a bit confusing. Correct me if I'm wrong. You can use two colours and modify their alpha as you please. But on the screen, there can only be two colours. So, if you had black as a colour, then in one scene it can be gray (50% trans.), and in another it can be black. Or is it just that two colours are allowed on the screen and you can use whatever colours? It more practically means that you can't have, like, a depth effect in UI or have particles fade out before they disappear.

it can be any color as long as only 2 appear on the screen... we define a color by their hex code

i think u should go and check the past entries as references... plenty of amazing games were able to use this restriction to their advantage

there are also a couple popular 1-bit games available on steam, maybe playing/watching those can give u a solid idea

What about things like anti-aliasing and slightly blurry text on the edges?

if ur asking if ull get disqualified... then no.
but ideally those things shud not be in ur game... otherwise ull score lower with the community

Just 2 colors, always! Practically this means nothing, I can't think of anything you couldn't do with 2 colors, you can do depth effects, transparent windows, particles and anything you imagine, as shown by the history of games!

I mean, I'm not really interested in doing that art style, and I don't see how you can make windows or depth effects without violating the rules afterwards. Thanks for the clarification. Maybe ... just put that. Only two visible hex colours at any time.😮‍💨

That's the whole point of the jam. It's not supposed to be easy. If you want depth effects, find a way without changing alpha. The rules are the rules, deal with it.

Of course! I wasn't complaining about the rules. I just accidentally made a cool effect when scaling a texture down and didn't know if I could use it. I see how I might have been coming across as complaining, sorry. I just wanted to understand the rule correctly, and also to know if I had to fix my text that has transparent pixels on the edges.

No worries! I get it :) I tend to be a bit harsh lol, sorry about that
