This game looks great as a concept and idea, but it also seems so complex to learn at this point in the jam. I can’t reach the brain energy to learn it and play it, but I can say some constructive criticism for the future:

  • The color contrast needs to be worked on to make reading more readable. There are many bits of text that are light brown on dark brown, and that won’t do.
  • The intro was fun. It was good. Unserious (due to the shortened words), but fun, and funny.
  • The collab mode seems so cool. I haven’t played it with anyone, and I can’t until I figure out how to play myself. But it seems like such a neat idea, and cute.
  • Cognitive-wise, we’d really benefit from an interactive tutorial. It’s like I said - at this point in the jam it’s a lot to take in. And the wheel has so many actions we can do, and I have no clue how to actual balance each section of the budget. Can we interview people to find out what’s the most important thing?
  • The UI of each slice in my wheel only has an icon; I don’t know what their label is. I don’t know what they stand for…
  • And I don’t understand how to add new expenses to my budget. Or even how to edit it (I tried to add something but I couldn’t really do it?…
  • How do I save my chart? When I press the back button, it asks me if I want to exit, and if I do, I have unsaved changes. I don’t find any save icon in the UI! (Nevermind! This was confusing. It would be better if there was an icon to save. You should have a button to save; and then when exiting, something like “Save and exit”, “Exit without saving” or “cancel”?)
  • I have some trouble understanding the grid of what beats what. And I don’t exactly understand how to beat the next co-worker (Ash).
  • I love unlocking new expenses. It’s really about learning what we need in the proposal. We can’t have a good proposal if we don’t know what’s involved.

Thank you for the thorough feedback, I’ll see if I can incorporate some of your suggestions into a post jam update.

  • In the prepare menu selecting a slice lets you read some info about it. You can select a slice by click and dragging the chart and bringing the section you want to focus to the rightmost side of the screen.
  • In the prepare menu, on PC, hovering white icons should show prompts on the left side of the screen describing what they do, The top right “+” button in this menu let’s you add new slices, the bottom right “refresh” button lets you change the expense.
  • I’ll reword the text in the save confirmation menu, it’s pretty bad haha.
  • When looking at the affinity grid you can click two coloured expense icons to test how they interact, rather than reading it from the chart. (The chart kinda sucks ;-;)
  • Since the game is just rock paper scissors, you just put things in your proposal that oppose the things in your opponents proposal according to the affinity chart. Sadly the information about your opponents proposal is only communicated by colour so it can be tricky to discern what to use in some cases.

Thank you for playing!
