More manageable feels better yet I like the depth that can come from sieges. Supplies, intel of the enemy, magic possibly, what the enemy has for siege weaponry vs the defences in place.

A ton of that depth is going to come from tactical positioning, the quirks of individual weapons (needing a save against an AOE vs direct attacks,) and how the players approach using siege weaponry. I'm aiming for the weapons to work well mechanically. The rest will arise organically.
