Hey folks,
Welcome to the Moonring Community.  I'm Dene Carter, the creator of Moonring, Incoboto, Spellrazor, The Horns and a bunch of other weird things as well as being co-creator of the Fable series on XBox.

Moonring is a game for people who love '80s RPGs, and wish they played the way they remember them. As such, Moonring features a slick interface with automatic note-taking and mapping, along with many quality of life improvements.

The game is still very early, and the main quest doesn't exist quite yet... but it will.

If you decide you want to play a part in this game's journey then I'm delighted to have you and would be interested to hear what would make this game better for you. I'm not adding lasers, Pokemon or FNAF fan creatures, though. That would be silly.

In the meantime, enjoy the ride, and feel free to introduce yourselves so I know who is playing!

- Dene

Hello.

First of all, thank you for your work and for making it available to everyone for free.

A few months ago, I discovered this game. I loved it from the very first minutes, but my English is limited, and I find it very difficult to play.

Would a Spanish translation be possible?

If not, is it possible for the text to appear in a separate window?
I ask this because in some games I use an automatic translator, but in Moonring, the problem is that the text doesn't appear in just one place on the screen, as it does in many RPGs. Therefore, the translator can't translate the text correctly, since it works with a grid, and it's impossible to configure that in this game.

Should I improve my English? Yes, of course. But if the game were translated into Spanish, or if there were an option to display the text in a separate window, it would be a great help.

Thank you.

P.S.: Translated with Google. I hope there are no errors.

Hi! Thanks so much for your comment. Unfortunately, I had no idea the game would be as popular as it is, and it was not written with any idea that people would want to play it in anything other than English. There are even English words carved into the terrain, which are clues! It would take me another year to remake it and undo this mistake, so I'm focusing instead on making Moonring 2 undo all the mistakes I made in Moonring 1. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful

I can translate some of the text that appears on signs or in-game items. But the bulk of the text in the window is what's giving me trouble.

Thanks anyway. Looking forward to the second part.

nice art direction work, looking forward to play it

Hello! I loooove your game! Thank you for such a wonderful, incredible homage to the great CRPGs of yore. May I ask what color palette you used for the game? It almost looks like an EGA palette but not quite? I like the neon aesthetic and I'm a budding pixel artist trying to learn more about the discipline.

Developer

No colour palette, really.  The game uses black, white, a primary, secondary and darkened secondary all derived from mathematical relationships around the HSV circle. Basically pick a direction on the colour wheel and then look opposite (for the secondary) and then a darker and slightly cooler or darker warmer for the last colour. Hope that helps!

Goodness. New to pixel art , so this will be quite a learning experience. Thanks : D

ALSO can I ask what resolution you were working at? I'm trying to do simple stuff so I can learn, I wanted to practice some of the technique you shared(Mostly just eyeballing it because I'm not some genius programmer who can do this algorithmically) but I don't know what size to work at as a newbie. I usually can do 8x8, 16x16, and at most 24x24

posted earlier, accidentally replied to myself though

Developer

I used 24x24 tiles.  Play ‘Haque’ and see what you can do with 12x12!

That looks awesome ^-^ I'll definitely have to try it : 3

Thanks for being responsive. Sorry to bug you haha. I adore Moonring and learning about game dev sometimes means asking the people who make things haha. I presume you coded the hue shifting instead of doing all this by hand, which might be why I get slightly different results.

Developer

Don’t worry about bugging me. You’ll get more info in general if you join the Fluttermind Discord.

I'll do that ^-^

this is one of the most fun i've had with any game i've discovered. and it sets itself apart from what rpgs tend to be in the mainstream too.

ove your work. i'll be doing my best to play this one to completion.

Developer

Thanks so much. Hope you enjoy it all the way through.

Hello! I am new to your work. When I saw you said you worked on Fable I was so excited to try this out. I never experienced original crpgs from the 80s (born in 94 lol) I wanted to ask if this game is fully complete?

Developer

Totally. 100%.
