I think its even more relevant in 2026 than in 1988 for ART reasons. This is PURE GAME. As it should be imo

I agree, games have move toward visual awesomeness in expanse of everything else, most likely because it's easy to sell pictures and videos. But gameplay, the very core of a game have been gigantically neglected.
Maybe because I've known and live through the 8 and 16 bits era, I enjoy a lot more a simple game with awesome gameplay than a super realistic game which need 50-100 GB of disk space (it's just insane !) but poor on story, game and gameplay itself, and/or just a copy of clone of a remake of other games.
For instance, one of my favorite game is Nuclear Throne by Vlambeer, and so despite I'm terrible at it :).
