Drop any questions you might have in this thread! You can also ask in the DevTalk Discord.

Heya. Is there a limit on how large a team can be? Not planning on anything huge but I figured I'd get that question out of the way in advance.

Jam Host

There's no limitations on team size! Just whatever you can reasonably organise.

Thanks, that's super handy to know :)

Are we allowed to submit sections of episodic games? For example, the first chapter of a game that we plan to publish more chapters of later on. There’s a section of the FAQ saying demos and W.I.Ps are fine, but I’m not sure if this is the exact same and I wanna cover all my bases ^__^

Jam Host

Yes, you can start an episodic series that you plan to update after the jam.

If it's a preexisting series then you'd need to make fresh assets to not break the rules (for example, same characters but new sprites).

Perfect, thank you!!!

The rules say no AI use for programming, but does that only extend to coding the game jam game specifically, or is it for everything related to code? if I use an engine/tooling that was coded with AI assistance, would it be rule-breaking? I have a custom personal framework in which I've used AI to help implement a few complex features, so I'm curious if I can use it or if I would have to re-make it without AI assistance/use something that had no AI-assisted development involved

Jam Host

There will be no gen-AI usage in anyway, assisted or whatever. There is no grey area here.

Can the protagonist(POV) be male or does the main cast has to be all female

Host

Yes, the protagonist can be male, as long as there are fem characters with significant roles in the story.

Can the game be more “cute” than “cool”? I already have some ideas about the VN I want to make, but they seem more focused on the “cute” side rather than the “cool”. Would it be okay to submit a game like that?

Jam Host

That's alright!
