Absolutely excellent in every way. Yes, there are “bad maps”. Yes, there are frustrating moments. Yes, there are some unexpected UI interactions. Yes, there are even some bugs. But all in all this is an incredible game for a week’s worth of work - bravo 👏🏻

Neat idea and very well made overall, but map generation could use some work. My bishop gets stuck behind corridors way too often.

Very neat idea!

I recognize your games immediately from various game jams and I always love seeing them pop up. This one is another really charming idea - the chess + roguelike mashup works great and it's very polished.

I did run into quite a few stalemates during my runs. If that gets addressed I can easily see this being very popular. Really lovely experience as always <3

Incredible amount of polish and content for a one week game jam.  I almost made a chess Roguelike myself.  Glad I hadn't now.

My bishop couldn't got stuck on one level:

Thanks! Yeah islands having those one wide bridges does indeed trap bishops pretty annoyingly. I have already improved this for a future version a bit. I'm sure there are already many different chess roguelikes out there but I intentionally didn't even check not to be unintentionally influenced (or unmotivated) by them. But there are so many directions you could take the genre combination so the world can easily fit multiple!

I'm amazed by the level of polish for this excellent entry. Very well done!
