Post your results and discuss the events of week 16, Feb 23 - Mar 1, here. Spoilers for this and past weeks are fine.

I wonder if Gough ever feeds the spiders old silk garments in return for giving him silk. The silk has to come from somewhere, and spider silk usually gets recycled (eaten) back into their bodies. It's either that, or probably some Arcane magic

(+2)

FYI; Spider silk is recycled to save energy, so if the spiders have a well kept-diet there wouldn't be much need to eat silk.

(+2)

But is this giant widow silk cruelty-free and ethically sourced. Do the spiders consent

Developer(+4)

Yes! They’re extremely comfortable and well-fed. 🙂

When Peter pitched this week’s story, I asked, “Does it have to be giant spiders? What about giant silkworms, those would be slightly less creepy,” but he pointed out normally silk worms are killed to harvest their silk, and obviously we can’t have that! So giant spiders it is.

(+2)

Some folk in India do “ethical silk” where they let silkworms mature and fly away from cocoons in trees, and then carefully spin the leftover cocoons!

I don’t know how well that works out for the silkworms in practice, but in either case I think spiders are cute and I think in the fantasy setting it’s way more interesting to get often-demonised giant spiders anyway :3

Today's article legitimately got a gasp out of me!

(+2)

oh. my. goodness! I can't wait to discover what happened! (side note, good job on the story being completed ahead of time! I see that magic wand! great job Celia!)

Developer(+1)

Thank you for noting that! I don’t get any credit this time, since we have Peter as a guest writer this week - so between us, we got the whole week set ahead of time with very little effort on my side. But I’m definitely savoring the feeling of being on top of things for once! 😄

Hi I'm getting PUZZLE IS MISSING from the itch.io page at the moment. Solved on the dedicated site in 4:02 though!

(1 edit) (+1)

Indeed, I also get the missing "puzzle" here on itch.io. It took me an entire 2 seconds to solve it!

Developer(+1)

Ah, so sorry folks! Bit of a mix up here, I was not as on top of things as I wished to believe. 😅

I’ve pushed the correct puzzle and article to itch now. Players on the site might also have been affected if you had an open tab you hadn’t refreshed, but refreshing will fix it. And I will not be pushing any incomplete puzzles that I intend to replace later anymore!

Thanks for reporting!

Very curious that the tapestry was  destroyed when  Ophelia Steel was guarding it AND when she was detained! Either she has an accomplice who helped her or...

and this is a bit of a weird theory, but maybe its some rogue magic that doesn't want this tapestry to be made? or something like that. being slashed in the same places is a bit suspicious

(+1)

Just solved today's riddle, why would some arcanist want to wreck the tapestry? And why can't the scribes discover the traces? Are they deliberately trying to mislead the investigation or are they just incompetent?

(+3)

Very satisfying conclusion, I wasn't sure how this could all be wrapped up in one final headline!

(+3)

There are companies cutting corners to save money even in the Daily Spell lol.

That was a creative finale, didn't expect it to be a scam, haha. Wonder if they're going to develop some tool or method to counter this sort of thing!
