Nice game!
I think I played it through (not 100% sure though... I got stuck on the minimap after the boss fight šŸ˜„).

Stuff I liked:

  • Pretty subjective, of course, but I just love these roguelike-ish games with turn-based combat and lots of variety (in whatever form it comes )

  • The combat system is overall really well done

  • The combat UI is clear. I could look up what each effect does

  • I especially liked that I could see detailed explanations/stats by pressing [Ctrl]. I really really  really appreciate not having to tab out and check a wiki just to understand how a skill actually works/scales.

  • With all the items, theres already a good amount of variety, and its something you can easily expand on even more

Stuff I didn’t like:

  • I know the theme was ā€œStrange Places,ā€ but I honestly didn’t get why I’m fighting in a pool, or why I’m mostly fighting pool objects… it’s just not my cup of tea. (But of course this won’t impact the rating for this jam—technically it matches the theme, it’s just not something I’d personally play outside of the jam.)

  • I couldn’t see the details of effects during the reward/loot phase. I didn’t fully understand what each stat/effect does.
(compared to the really nicely done battle phase)

  • Did i now finish the game or not? šŸ˜„

Ideas for the feature:

  • Maybe the dog/wolf? can learn new skills and the player has to decide what his moveset of 4 moves gona be?
(maybe it was already implemented an just missed it...)

Thanks for the feedback! ^^ Lots of insightful stuff here, and I agree with you about loving roguelite games with build variety. I just love it when there are so many different ways to construct a build that aren't just number-go-up. :)

Yeah, fair enough with the theme stuff! We went for a background where the game is based on exploring backrooms-like spaces, but we only really ended up implementing the liminal-space like aspect for a pool-like area.

And the lack of clarity on effects is also understandable! I was worried about that but I didn't have enough time to code that for the rewards screen as well, unfortunately. :/

And yes, you did beat the game! Congrats! ^^ We ran into some major bugs late into development so we didn't have time to implement a game win screen. :p

Edit: Oh! And I forgot to mention that while we restricted abilities for the game jam and tried to work with just expanding upon items, we were thinking about having the player change out abilities in the future too! ^^
