I’d like to be able to set it so that grotesque games are hidden.
I believe there is no setting on Itch to filter out tags.

By entering the URL as shown above, all horror games containing grotesque content that I don’t want to see are no longer displayed.

However, the exclusion setting is applied only to the game list page, and grotesque games are still displayed on the top page as before, so I have no choice but to continue avoiding access to the top page.
If you are willing and able to use browser extensions, I have a tampermonkey script that can help. It does not protect you before you see a game, but you can remove the game from being seen for future visits.
It also works on the itch.io page, but not on profiles and collections.
It's the last script on that page I linked and has no screenshot. Default behaviour is to hover over the game, press 1 on the keyboard and it's gone from now on. And in library pages, it will have a yellowish outline. You toggle it "off" with key 5, which effectively just applies the library style everywhere. Pressing 1 again removes the game from the filter list.
