Only on Android is it necessary to copy save files.
On other platforms the save/ -folder contains copies of the save files that are store elsewhere. On Windows it is %APPDATA%, on Linux ~/.renpy/Harem\ Hotel-<random-number>/, on Mac something similar that I do not remember. All versions of game use that same place.
Installing new version of game to a new directory and loading save file from old version should just work.
I have not developed games with Renpy, but I know it uses Python code. In python 2 (which Renpy 7 uses) integer type is processor word size, which nowadays usually is 64 bit. There is data type long, which should always be at least 64 bits.
I’m just curious, because I wanna know if I could theoretically get above 2147483647 ingame.

In Python 3 which Renpy 8 uses, integer type is unlimited. When game is ported to that new Renpy version you can have unlimited amount of money!

Is download always stopping when 4GB has been downloaded? Some filesystems have maximum file size 4GB, could that be the reason? Use File explorer to examine properties of that disk. If it is FAT file system, it has 4 GB max filesize.
You provide very little information, I can not guess what could be wrong. Just pressing the Download button works for me. Developers Patreon page has the download links too, you could try there but they should be the very same links.
If you have another PC you can use, download there and transfer to your PC using memory stick or other portable storage.
Strange errors. I can only suggest, like developer wrote originally, to download the full v0.19.1 zip and extract it to a new directory. Then try starting that and see if these strange errors disappear.
That should get a fully working game, unless files have been modified or cheat codes have been used to mess up the old saves.
If you just want to continue from where you last played the game, that works without cheat codes. The old save should work and you can continue. To be sure, make a save in main characters room and continue from that in the new install. If you play on Android, see Discord channel FAQ on how to copy save files.

Joining Patreon or Subscribestar as subscriber allows you to get the cheat codes that work.
I think that bug happens when version v0.18.0 or v0.18.1 is patced to v0.19.1 with HH v0.18+ > v0.19.1 PC Patch
It still says above on this page that patch applies to v0.18.0 or later, but it only works for patching v0.18.2 to v0.19.1.
For original poster: If my guess is correct, you can fix your setup by getting the HH v0.17+ > v0.18.2 PC Patch and copying only the garden.rpa file from that. Or installing the full v0.19.1 like developer suggested, but that is 13GB download instead of 1GB.
Seems Itch App does not allow downloading from third party sites. Error message is “This title is hosted on an incompatible third-party website”. Game can be downloaded manually from the Download links on game Itch page.

(1) I feel game does allow earning money at a comfortable rate. But earned money must be invested in profitable upgrades, that way money flow continues.
Problem is, first time playing it is hard to know which purchases make more money than they cost. Or which are proritable now instead of some time in the future.
Moneymaking activities were added in v0.18.2 and seems v0.20 is going to add some more.
Game could have a bank that loans money at 10% interest.
(2) Bowling tournament is a dice roll, but player wins more than loses, so it is a way to make money in the long run. It might be more fun if some skill was involved.
On Patreon there is also Google Drive download link. That is usually the worst since it has limit for simultaneous downloads, which fills pretty fast. Maybe it is faster, though?
I would not trust third party download sites. You get Harem Hotel for free from the links provided by the developer, so why download from elsewhere.
I tried the Mac download link. Seems OK, downloaded took under 23 minutes.
You are not playing a released version. Install latest released version v0.19.1, links to downloads are above on this page.
It may be the save files you have break the game with v0.19.1, but it should work better than the beta test you have now. You may have to start a new game to get rid of all messy features.
