"Strange Places". Any cool ideas for this theme?

Have any ideas that you decided against, but still think would make for a cool game? I know I'm not the only one that struggles to come up with ideas for themed game jams lol.

Ahhh actually nothing

Maybe the worst theme for me,  It implies different locations or iveling the real ones, I don’t want to make the real ones worse in that sense, and I don’t have any ideas about that

It costs more locations anyway, that I can't keep up in time

I think the theme is making it pretty hard to come up with ideas...

But I do have some ideas , I'll be happy to share them once I decide which one I want to go with  :D

Here are some we came up with but chose to not pursue:

  • (2D) Items were misplaced in strange places, find and collect them. Heavy focus on narrative
  • (2D) Horror exploration game.
  • (2D) (Roguelite?) Combat game / Vampire Survivor-like, different biomes(?) and enemies.
  • (2D/3D) Wolfenstein-esque dungeon crawler with non-Euclidean mechanics
  • (2D) Age of War clone
  • 2D Sprites on images of 3D world

A fair amount of people seem to be going with sci fi planets. I think it makes the most sense. If you're unsure, that's vague enough to allow you to do a lot with it

The present tense is no less strange place

You could make a more story focused game where you lost your memory and you have to travel to important places of your past to get them back.

I am making an Earthbound inspired game, and Strange Places are natural to the series. So that's what I got!

you are trapped in a demon school and have to escape while not getting seen by them. It's one of my rejected ideas.
