It was a sudden idea from a programmer who thought that if the numbers go faster, it's more action, and interesting.. I guess? It was a conscious choice and suggest that what the character feels counting time - need to hurry, it's melting! Etc

I actually thought about it at the beginning, and like the landing animations etc things

but a programmer I couldn't have done it, it was difficult, but I'm glad that at least this worked out for us
