[Hiring] Developer for "Stardew Valley" Inspired Proposal Game – A 20-Year Love Story (Standalone)

Project Overview: I am seeking a developer/artist to create a short, standalone 2D pixel-art game for a marriage proposal. The game is inspired by Stardew Valley and focuses on a "Geocaching" mechanic. This needs to be a standalone executable (Windows) that can be easily saved and replayed for years to come.

The Story: The game follows two characters based on my girlfriend and I. We were high school sweethearts who broke up at the end of high school, went to college, then spent 18 years apart (in denial that we were completely in love with each other…) before finally finding our way back to each other. The game is a celebration of that journey.

Key Features Needed:

  • Custom Avatars: Pixel art characters designed to look like the two of us (references provided when commissioned).
  • The Geocache Mechanic: A small, explorable map where the player (her) uses a GPS-style tool to find 5–7 hidden geocaches.
  • Interactive Mementos: Each geocache, when opened, should display a pop-up window with a "memento" (e.g., a pixel-art version of some relationship specific items) and a short piece of dialogue/text. Items specified when commissioned. (Asset Use: Please use Paid Asset Packs for trees, grass, environment, etc, but CUSTOM pixel art for characters and mementos).
  • The Finale: Finding the final cache triggers a custom cutscene and a dialogue sequence that leads to the proposal. (I will be off scene with a ring box, the dialogue will prompt her to face me).
  • Music/Vibe: A cozy, lo-fi soundtrack similar to the Stardew Valley OST.

Technical Requirements:

  • Engine: Open to suggestions (RPG Maker, Unity, or Godot), provided the final product is a standalone build.
  • Art Style: 16-bit / Top-down "Cozy" aesthetic.
  • Timeline: Looking for a completion date by July 2026 (This is negotiable).

Budget: Negotiable based on experience and scope. I am looking for a high-quality, polished experience and am willing to pay a fair rate for a dedicated developer.

I noticed you mentioned a cozy, Stardew Valley-style soundtrack. I’m a composer and wanted to reach out in case you’re interested in original custom music for the game. If that’s something you’d like to explore, feel free to contact me at mariosello1@gmail.com

Hey, I am interested in your project.
Stardew  Valley-style for your project is really great.
I've been working in gaming industry for 10 years and mostly worked with Unity and Unreal.
I have about3 years of experience with Godot.

Hi DarkDuet, first of all congratulations for sharing your story and proposal idea.

I will be happy to help you developing the game for this special event.

I have developed a good variety of different 2d games and I can help you with yours, however I would like to discuss in private more details about how you want to implement the Geocaching mechanics.

Here you can see some of my old projects:

Congratulations! I'd love to help you create this.
I have a few examples of work on my itch profile but ultimately I'm a programmer professionally and I'm working to build out my game dev skills and my portfolio. I'd love to talk more about what you'd like to accomplish.
