Classic Junji Ito, executed in a simple yet effective formula. The hit detection is not perfect but it works. Good game !
da hole!
like others have said, the biggest issue with the game is the inconsistent click detection. even when the holes aren’t visually overlapping, the hitboxes can, which makes it very frustrating at times. also pretty rough to start out with, the how to play section only covered the absolute basics and it took me a bit to even figure out what was happening in the main gameplay.
that being said, despite the simple gameplay, i was REALLY captivated when i finally got into it! this is probably thanks to the phenomenal atmosphere, which is very uncomfortable (in an enjoyable way). i’ve never read the enigma of amigara fault, but as far as i’m aware, it’s a horror work, so that matches up very nicely.
also jesus fucking christ that ending was. Yeah (not in a bad way it’s a natural and well-executed conclusion to the tension but Yeah)
overall good start to my review period, hope to see more from you next jam
Yeah unfortunately I don't think there's much I can do with the overlap on hit boxes because of how the plugin I'm using seems to work.
Enigma of Amigara Fault's one of Junji Ito's more well known works, mostly because of the one panel being used as a meme. I'd recommend giving it a read sometime!
I like the unholy shadow monsters that the game occasionally generates. Perhaps that's what Reisen became.
The problem of characters going to the wrong hole was frustrating, but solved by waiting for a clear opportunity.
The mood is oddly terrifying, probably because of the music. Would be funny if it rationalized with full grim setting context.
Matching silhoutte as a general idea does have potential as quick game, building on top of previous comment with challenge, the build up should introduce character one by one since the player would not know what they look like full body yet (especially in different art style)
Thank you!
I was planning to have more than just three characters, originally it was nine with a different set each level but didn't have the time to add them all. I might try to do an update to add them in later.
The concept of this game is interesting! There is a lot to play with for the future if you plan on further development. You can try having obstacles that obfuscate the view, similar looking characters, stuff like that. Though I do think it's a bit unfair that shadows spawn overlapping each other. And having to wait for a refresh when the character you have doesn't have a shadow on screen also drags the player experience down a bit. Consider maybe adding some features such as a "holding" slot that you can temporarily swap out the character you're holding, like how Tetris does it!
Honestly I feel you're selling yourself short in the description. The game isn't bad, only problem I really see is the fact the shadow merge together sometimes without the game checking *all* you click to see if you got at least one correct.
Honestly the mood of the game kinda drew me for some reason? Like I wanted to keep playing out of curiosity for whatever the ending was cause it was rather depressing seeming. And while I didn't understand it (non-Touhou aficionado), I enjoyed what I saw.
Yeah, I might have been a little down on myself because I was still stressed from trying to get it working in time. Thank you!
