Trying to constantly remember the colour combinations was fairly tricky I'll admit but the game is pretty fun. I especially love the pixel art work. Although the "optimal" way to play the game is just spamming everything, I notice that there is an accuracy score at the end which incentivizes not to do that which I appreciate.
I got overwhelmed once the difficulty increased. Pretty cool concept with both directions and color mattering. Might make for an interesting rhythm game if synced to the music. That being said, I'm a bit on the fence about the correct color not matching the color of the projectile: the added difficulty of the color system makes the game more difficult to pick up, but wouldn't really add any difficulty once a player has internalized the system. It basically does the opposite of what you probably want from your difficulty curve. It's not necessarily a big deal, though, it doesn't matter much for a jam game of this scope. The animation is cute and Star is precious.
Sun. Moon. Star. Using these, you were able to win at “Ball Game”. (You are awarded 50G.)
it’s difficult to not let my inherent bias towards anything involving the three fairies show here, but i swear it’s just a good game besides that. REALLY fun for how simple the gameplay loop is. as other people have mentioned, it’s pretty easily cheesed by spamming all the buttons (which i think could be rectified by simply giving bonus points for using less inputs), but you can’t underestimate the power of simply Not using cheese. and when i didn’t, it was really fun!
the difficulty ramps up quite fast after a while, which is mostly noticeable in subsequent playthroughs since the first levels feel much slower when you aren’t also trying to learn how the game works. not really a problem, though. said curve seems to be based on automatically scaling speed, so i’d imagine it gets COMPLETELY unfair at some point, but that’s also not a bad thing when the game has an arcadey feel to begin with. not really the kind of loop that lends itself to a defined ending. phenomenal music choice, really helps make it more exciting, and the spritework on star is super nice. having to switch between rps-style elements wasn’t really something i’d think of for the theme, but it fits nicely.
ended up playing a few times to try and get a high score of at least 1000, and the replayability is fantastic here. overall a great time, hope to see more from you in the next jam!
It's cool in concept and when it's slow at the start.
But yeah, quickly came to realize the optimal way to play is to mash the cycle and shoot keys. It's almost like a plottwist where the game that looked like a tactical survival game reveals itself to be a high-action shooter, it's kinda funny.
Though, the presentation is neat, and Star's outfits and animations are great! And by the time the difficulty's high enough, it comes down to your endurance against the enemy spam.
It's not bad in itself for the game's short playtime, just not that interesting for the balance and gameplay loop.
Feels like using the TF2 Vaccinator. I love the outfits!
Fun Lil minigame staring Star Saphire. I really like the concept of Star changing into the outfits of her other fairy buddies. The gameplay did get a little spammy and you're able to cheat the game that way. Otherwise, fun Lil minigame! Nice work.
I was able to spam the buttons and ended up cheating the game, but it was still fun! :)
