Game Description
The dead are moving on to the next life, but before they can pass on, they must first have a dance to continue their macabre way. In this game, craft masquerade masks for the dead, as you try to give them the perfect facade for who they once were.

How does your game tie into the theme?
The game prominently features masks, both in story and gameplay. Masks are used as a presentation for the body and the soul, how we are seen and want to be seen. The player crafts masks for a haunted Masque.

Wow this feels so polished and I love the concept! Everyone on the team should be proud of this!

There is so much to good things say but the 2 things that really stood out to me is the voice acting and the artwork. Opening with a narrated scene was a really smart choice to keep me engaged and hooked.

The art work felt so unique and beautiful too. The way you can mix and match the different parts of the masks was fun and no matter what combination I tried, it always resulted in something very visually pleasing.

Finally I think the UX/UI was really well done. Snappy and to the point. All the subtle shader effects also played it's part too!

I really enjoyed this one. Great job!

Thank you! Getting the masks parts to work nicely together was tricky but a lot of fun!

This is lovely!! It's clear how much work went into it, and I love the general premise. The artwork is beautiful and really fits the tone of the story and game as a whole! And wow, a fully voice acted character is impressive, and well done!

I second the other comments about the colors being a bit unclear, and it was a little difficult when I messed up to tell why I'd messed up. But this is a really cool concept and well executed!

Developer

Thank you! There was an idea to give they symbols a colored frame instead, which would probably have been clearer. Unfortunately that was a bit late in the process so we stuck with the current iteration. There is however also a setting called colorblind mode which adds letters to the symbols as well. We probably should have set that as the standard option, but the colors already felt a bit restrictive and forcefully guiding to the player's creativity.

Incredible work by everyone, super fun little game, very interesting! so so polished feeling and it was fun to just play around with making different masks

Developer

Thank you! Making all those mask parts was a lot of fun, so I'm glad people enjoy the mask making mechanic too!

I loved the voice acting - I wish every character was voiced! Also, I really liked the little flourish that happens when you paint / finish a mask, it's such a fun touch.

I'll be honest, I tried to follow the mask properties at first, but it was just as fun to craft masks just based on my gut feeling. I especially loved the end where I got to make my own mask :D

The different mask features were very fun to mix and match. The only thing that would make the experience even smoother for me would be if the crafting menu showed which feature was currently selected. Also, a few colors (especially yellow, pink, and magenta) were harder to tell apart.

Overall, this was a really fun experience! The level of polish involved is so lovely and it feels like a lot of hard work and love went into this game. Well done!

Thank you! When it comes to the colors, I tried to make them a bit clearer but then the symbols became harder to read. With a bit more time I could have figured something out to make it work better, I think. There is however also the COLORBLIND assist option which adds letters to the symbols indicating the type.

Glad you had fun making the masks! I hoped people would play around and make the most goofy or aesthetically pleasing masks. After all it's a bit subjective what feature feels like something or other, isn't it?

The art is amazing, you guys are really talented artists. The game is fun but at certain points I was a bit confused. Like I didn't undestand what they were asking me sometimes, and I also had NO IDEA how much the eyes, nose, mouth and accessories affected, there wasn't a hint and sometimes I'd make a mask that (I thought) clearly fits what they were asking me and they were like "boy, you're the worst mask maker ever" LOL. And sometimes I didn't understand and made a "so-so" mask and they were like "wow! you really captured the essence here!" and I was like "???". I also never understood the first mask, it's supposed to give no "bonus"?

I still had a lot of fun with the game, the atmosphere is very enjoyable, the music is super lovely and it never felt repetitive (a common thing in jams where they would just loop 1 song over and over), I'd make instructions vague enough to give room for freedom (like 1 mask is the correct but maybe a second mask would be half correct), and clarity in what accesories really do.  But I gotta tell you the art is super professional, and you even added VOICE ACTING!! here goes great rating for art and audio. Amazing job!!

Feels super polished overall, very satisfying to put together the masks and try to figure out the requests. Although I found it hard to tell exactly what was being asked for sometimes. I guess that's a tough balance to hit, as it definitely felt less interesting when the request was super obvious and I just rushed through those.

Really well executed overall, nice work.

Developer(+2)

Thank you! Yeah, it was pretty hard to balance the requests, especially since we ourselves were so familiar with the terminology and the individual parts. There's always a bit of a tendency to feel you're making things too easy, when in general things are too hard. Due to failure being somewhat inconsequential though, I hope people still have fun with the stories and just crafting all manner of goofy masks!

Cool game! The artists really did a good job at making each trait having good visual associations for the masks. And The story and introduction is very memorable. Great job!
