Loved the art style, the mechanics, the console game, and the hand delivering the talismans made me jump the first time I saw it, I thought it was some slenderman, haha.

I'm missing something, why is this artstyle so popular? Like the retro/PS1/VGA style (I don't know its name, but I've seen it in tons of games this jam) is it from like a famous tutorial or somehow easy to implement?

I think its just a mix of nostalgia and being more eerie/uncanny. I don't know if they're necessarily easier to implement, but it can be easier to get away with laziness since the color banding/dithering will sometimes hide flaws that you would otherwise notice
