How does your game fit the Magical Girl Genre?
This game is set in a world where Magical Girls manifest in accordance to the values they exhibit. Operating within different groups, they are meant to be heroes whose powers pass on upon their death, selecting the next best girl to be their successor!

Which theme(s) do you pick?
Children of Liberty Phantom Pain Rising Revengeance

How does your game fit those theme(s)?
Children of Liberty: Our main group of Magical Girls -- The Saintly Seven -- are supposed to operate similarly to a superhero group in any here media (think the Justice League, or the Avengers or The Seven from The Boys) which fits the theme for the phrase itself. In relation to the game's themes, the Saintly Seven are supposed to all be living manifestations of the virtue they represent; this is how they are marketed. However, upon further interaction, we see more and more how this is the furthest thing from the truth. Phantom Pain: Later on in the game, we meet a character who highlights the nature of trauma, and what it took from her, therefore adhering to the theme in the game itself, rather than the word. Rising Revengeance: That aforementioned character is operating from a place of vengeance against a system that actively failed her once things got difficult -- so it fits in the literal phrase. It also does have slight hints at the theme of child soldiers and normalisations of violence; so it also fits into some of the themes in the actual game.

If you follow any of the optional challenges, elaborate as you like.
We tried, but ultimately couldn't :(

Were the assets for your game made during the jam? Elaborate as you see fit.
All of the assets were made during the jam :3

Salutations!
I enjoyed playing this, but I was too sad when it ended. The writing is so good, and it quickly got me engaged.
The art style and designs for all characters were truly stunning. I really loved the art department here.

The story was definitely great, and the twist at the end, even though I was able to predict it, was still a heartbreaking ending that made me wish there was more to the story.

I totally enjoyed the dialogue; it felt so natural during conversations, and their personalities really stood up during all the interactions. I was starting to feel like all ways lead to the same ending, but I was honestly surprised there was a secret romance ending. I would've loved a similar ending with Saint Charity since it's my favorite from the Seven, but who am I to say no to Saint Temperance?

The little extra scenes at the end of the store were too relatable and made me remember my earlier years at my first paying job.

I took some notes from my experience:

  • Some of the backgrounds were too much for my eyes. Maybe the half-tone filter was scaled weird or something, I can't quite tell exactly what it was. Just a few of them, not exactly a game breaking issue.
  • Some music would help the ambience and would be a great support for all the scenes. Idk if it was just on my end, but I played the entire story without any sound. Though I totally understand if this was due to time constraints.
  • And lastly, I want more story. You can't end in such a twist and expect me to just move on :(

My last thoughts are that the story is engaging, the designs are beautifully crafted, and the characters are charismatic as hell. I really hope that you have future plans for this universe and the characters you've created because I truly loved it.

Firstly, OH MY GOD. I'm so glad you enjoyed the game so much that you wrote such a heartfelt thing for us. I gotta say, I appreciate this so much. In  any case, the lack of music was, in fact, due to time constraints. Might do something with Lumi / Young Charity at some point but that's in the air. Thank you for enjoying! (sorry for hurting your eyes with our backgrounds-)

The writing was so engaging and the art was really expressive. The entire thing is just  so well made in general!

Oh! And I love the good ending with Temperance. Did not expect it at all! I´d be hyped if you ever planned to do a longer version of the game or a second part or smth! Would rush in with the pom poms and a fanart! :3

Man... there is just so much love in those characters, where they all have their own distinct personalities.

Only criticism would be some typos and spelling mistakes in the Temperence route. And that the other girls didn´t also have more ending variations. But that just made Temperence my favorite... ok tbh she would also be otherwise with the drinking buddy scene.

I agree!

I really liked the use of black and white for the art style, and I also like how each of the magical girls' personalities are the opposite of what they represent. Speaking of the magical girls, I'm a big fan of their design (especially Temperance). I think the only issue I could point out is that the gray text over the black textbox is a little hard to read.

Developer(+1)

AH glad you enjoyed it, gotta change that text at some point-

cool game! i like the commentary about magical girls, i was gonna mention how it reminded me of The Boys before seeing it was a part of the inspiration, lol! i did run into an error msg when talking to saint temperance outside of the backstage door, not game-breaking or anything but figured i'd mention: "Image 'i_temperance frown' not found"

Developer(+1)

AAHHH I'm glad you enjoyed it, gotta fix that right away o7

There seems to be an error when you talk to Gratitude and ask how old she is:
While running game code:
File "game/script.rpy", line 1341, in script
N "Maybe this is a game of charades."
Exception: Sayer 'N' is not defined.

(I'm guessing it should've been a lowercase n?)

That aside, I think the story's pretty great! Especially with the bad endings, poor Bobo :(

Developer

OH MY GOD, thank you. I had spotted that but forgot to patch it, though I'm glad you enjoyed the story!

tsk tsk tsk, dev

I originally got the quickest ending xD  But played through to what I presume is the proper one! Good work and interesting story :)
