Ranked from 21 ratings. Score is adjusted from raw score by the median number of ratings per game in the jam.

How does the game fit the theme?
The "risk" is a "Chutes and Ladders" concept, where some elevators which are supposed to move you faster towards the goal, may backfire. The "biscuit" story-wise, is a job promotion.

What code and assets did you not make from scratch during the jam (if any)?
Art assets were purchased from the Itch asset store, and via an online sprite generator.

How many people worked on the game?

It's quite an Interesting idea, I like that you played around with a horizontal maze game like this. It reminds me of some old gameboy games where you are basically running around the level going through doors, stairs and elevators. Tried medium difficulty, but unfortunately didn't reach the top floor in time. Stopped at a place where you are going up and down through some stairs only. Speaking of that, this brings to a good point that it would be a nice idea to know what floor you are on, so that it gives the player some urgency and a sense of progress. And something different on each floor would be nice too! Just something to distinguish the floors from each other. Also, some sounds such as office ambience would be nice too.

Anyway, good job in making this game. Keep up the good work!

Pretty cool! I like the main mechanic and how risk is implemented. My only feedback would be to add a short tutorial, and perhaps a visual to show how close I was to the top, so I knew whether to risk or not based on that and the timer. Very interesting, well done overall :)

Developer

I appreciate you, mate. And whole-heartedly agree.

I thought it was interesting but the choice of which elevator to take or whatever never felt that compelling to me. The oops! all elevators! floor made me think there was a hint with the art or something but that didn’t seem to be the case? I think I failed to beat hard by like a few seconds, alas… Obviously sound and music would go a long way. Solid effort though!

Developer

I think you're right on the money.  It was an increasingly simplified version of a wider original idea, that we ultimately just didn't have the time needed to execute. I actually spent several hours during a final crunch attempt, trying to get sound going, but I just didn't like the results I was producing and scrapped it.

On the 20th floor (all elevators) there actually is a hint, though it is admittedly incredibly subtle.  There's a section with red writing on the wall, and one elevator in between the only squiggles that are mirrored on both sides and the closest one the art pack had to an "up".

Cool idea! Maybe this was the idea if there was more time, but it would've been cool if the levels were procedurally generated :)

Developer

lol Yesh! That was part of the original want. Just way beyond my capabilities to make it generated well within even half decent level-design parameters.

A fun idea, I'd like to see more than just the one level. It could be helpful to display the floor number too to give more of an idea of your progress.

Developer

Yesh. Both were part of the plan, but time dictated what we were ultimately able to get done within the week.

Interesting and quickly frustrating. Because it smacked perfectly on my this-is-that-kind-of-thing button. I guess memorizing all the elevators is part of the challenge. It's well done!

Developer

Memorization is a piece. I also tried to put hints in the way things worked, but wasn't able to design all the floors, so a lot ends up being overly ambiguous.

Somehow I managed to beat the game on my first try. Overall it’s pretty well made, just missing some sound effects.

Developer

Big time.  And I was happy to see this outcome. You must have gotten quite lucky on some of the random shafts.

Novel concept and one of the most striking capsule images - hard to miss it when scrolling submissions.

Would have been nice to have some audio and some more skill mixed in with the luck based selection. Also not sure if there's a benefit to walking, maybe just have shift held down by default.

Developer

100%! I really tried to make a good audio profile. At least a background track and sounds in the stairwells and elevators, but ultimately I suck at sound design and just didn't like how it came out and ultimately ran out of time.

The running was related to other mechanics we wanted to implement, but job schedules and other commitments just made time scarce.

And thanks for noticing about the capsule image. I have very little experience with digital art, and really rushed trying to get that together, so I'm glad there was something in it. 😆😆

Sometimes feels actually impossible to progress. I wish there was somehow a better solution less based on luck. Interesting concept though.

Developer

If I'd had more time, there would have been better indicators. There IS a guaranteed win path, but unfortunately I wasn't able to get to designing all the floors.

The game is interesting and quite hard, I wasn't able to get to the top floor. I think that practically all the walls are the same, so a little variety would make the game even better.

Developer

Agreed. There were so many things we wanted to do, and just ran out of time.

Cool idea! I soft locked myself pretty early on though :(

Developer(+1)

Sorry, mate. What ended up being the snag? I'd like to get an idea of things I might have missed in the design.

Submitted

I recall accidentally locking from being able to go up, as all the elevators were done.

And no stairs? I'll have to look closely, as I really tried to avoid that happening

What a never ending building!

Stuck on the floor of doom. Fun concept!

Developer

I'm curious: which one was the floor of doom?

Love the concept and style. Was tricky to understand what to do straight away but then got into the flow a bit.
