I couldn't managed to get the detector working past the tuto:(
I found the 100$ coockie in the tuto and I could bring it on the boat, idk if it's planned.
Also, the dark blue text on dark green background in your description is hard to read (and I'm not colorblind). You should probably use colors with more contrast in brightness.
Each detector has a range. The first one has a 3m range, so maybe you didn't get lucky, especially that holes are random generated... or I screwed up.
In tutorial there is 100% chance for treasure to be sure that you have a money to start with so it is planned indeed. ;)
I just changed the text, because I had dark mode on on my browser. I'll make sure to have that in mind next time.
