Thanks! I appreciate the advice on this and my other post!

I’ve made it further, but hit a few new roadblocks.

  1. I still cannot figure out what triggers an event in the “no funeral” room. I’ve completed 19 floors, picked up the cards of all three monsters, and read all the journal entries. What am I missing?

  2. I don’t know how to defeat the Devourer. I have Tai go berserk as often as possible, while having Julian support with Threaten, Warning Shot, and Bullet Spray. When the berserk’s on cooldown, I try either regular knife attacks or Bleeding Edge. However, I couldn’t do enough damage to kill it. I’ve tried twice. Advice?

  3. I don’t know how to defeat the Grotesquerie Slime. It summons adds, which I can’t kill before the Grotesquerie Slime devours all three of them and regains more health than I’ve inflicted. So I’m netting zero damage against it. I’ve fought it only once. Ditto about getting advice here, please!

  4. I’ve noticed that your Bonus PDF has some letters in red, which spell out words: visitor (pg 12), national (pg 20), messiah (pg 33). Was this just for fun or is there some purpose to knowing them? I can’t think of any use for them in the game.

  5. Once I defeat the Devourer, do I have access to the dev room? Or are there other bosses I haven’t found? And, either way, are there any hints on where to find the dev room? FYI, I’ve cleared two secret boss encounters: the Nightmare Slime, and the Attic, Innocent, and Mascot Slimes.

Also, hey, someone else who likes Dragon Quarter? You’re awesome!

Sorry for the late reply, maybe you've figured some of this out...

1. The cards just open the way to the Attic, Innocent and Mascot slimes.

2. tbh?? Surprised you haven't killed it yet since that's the ideal strategy for fighting it

3. You just gotta make the most of your buffs here. Have a buffed Julius machine gun as soon as the Grotesqurie's groupies come back, and make sure to keep it bleeding. At the very least, if you can't take out all of its groupies, reduce the amount of health it recovers.

4. hee hee hee consider playing the game with the fewest enemy kills as possible :)

5. Yeeep, you already got everything else, the Devourer's the only thing left.

I haven't played Dragon Quarter, but melessthanthreedid! The Nightmare Slime is based off the nightmares from their game Lucah: Born of a Dream, which they say was partially inspired by Dragon Quarter.

Thanks for the info! And no worries about the delay. Life goes on.

  1. Good to know, thanks!

  2. Yeah, I’m afraid it’s not working. I just made my fifth attempt. The Devourer inflicts too much damage. I’ve gambled on the hope the boss is low on HP and that it’ll target the less-injured character (usually Julius, because he doesn’t have a defense debuff), but it’ll always kill Tai. I’ve switched to a more defensive strategy of healing and hoping to get ahead of the damage output, but I can’t keep up.

  3. Which buffs should I be using? I should tried my sixth attempt, this time using Crusader Mindset, followed by Bullet Spray. Tai was using Bleeding Edge, healing when possible, and I had him go berserk when I got desperate. However, the cooldown for Crusader Mindset was too long to keep up with how fast the Grotesquerie brought back its adds.

  4. I thought you had to kill literally every monster to progress, if only because of how difficult the boss encounters are. I’m already struggling to defeat the third boss. I can’t imagine even getting this far without killing more monsters.

Maybe you could lay out the combat system and recommended strategies in detail? And give me the HP of the bosses? Since I’m at 5+ attempts on both of them and I think I’m doing what you’re recommending, I suspect I’m doing something wrong.

Here's the stats for the Mythological Slime. tbh, I'm kinda surprised you're having a lot of trouble with the Grotesquerie since I nerfed it a few updates back. I... actually don't have any other advice to offer. I watched a stream of someone going through the fight (10:17:32) and she basically used the same strategies and got it first try even before I lowered its HP a bit.

Thanks for sharing the info. Unfortunately, I’m still stuck. I’ve watched the video and made several more attempts on the third boss, along with at least another couple on the Mythological Slime.

I can get the Mythological Slime down to 200 HP. I’d have killed it, except when it drains a character or eats its allies, it gains enough HP to keep me from finishing it off. Tai usually dies when the countdown hits about 3, because I’m playing him so desperately with offense that he can’t handle incoming damage and Julian doesn’t have a way of taking the pressure off him.

As for the video, it helped me get a better understanding of how to play Julian and Tai off of each other. In particular, using Signal Flare to make people target Julian while he has Self-Sufficiency up. I’ve been able to get the third boss down to the point where he gives himself a buff, but I die pretty quickly after that. Either they dogpile Tai despite Signal Flare being up, they hit Julian with everything when his buffs are down and Tai’s berserk, or they stun one of my party members. Any of those is a death sentence for me.

The other thing is that I don’t understand enough about the rhythm of the game play. I don’t know how to avoid being put in a bad position, nor how to adapt if things go badly. If I get put on the defensive or just get a bad round of luck, it’s over for me. The bosses can beat me through attrition.

I’m threading too tight a needle managing status effects, power cooldowns, health, ammo, and TP. While also trying to account for boss patterns on top of that. If they didn’t have the ability to regenerate health or if my buffs lasted longer, I’m pretty sure I could make it.
