Hi, I'm a little confused by the preference settings in this one. I've played this game a few times, over the past year or two, and never at any point have the kink and mutation preference settings worked properly. With the warning settings, they seem to reset no matter what I do, refusing to save my changes, so for whatever reason I only get warnings for maybe 2-3 turns, if that, and then the setting is switched off again. For the mutation blocking, those just do not do anything at all as far as I can tell. Both using the random mutation mode and the non-random mode. No matter what, the game still gives me mutations that are clearly crossed out in the list. It doesn't even seem to make them happen less often, and a lot of them I blacklisted because they simply happened too frequently. Those settings DO save, as in, they're still crossed out when I go back to the page (Unlike the warning settings, which simply reset themselves to default) but there doesn't appear to be any influence on whether or not I'm given a mutation, and when I've been given those mutations I can no longer cross them out until they've been removed. Maybe I'm using it wrong, but I really just don't get how to properly include warnings and block certain mutations, which is making it difficult to really get into the game. I would also really like a way to "lock in" certain mutations so that we didn't just keep having to reset to square one if we get a mutation we hate (that should have been blacklisted in the first place). Please do let me know if I'm just misunderstanding how these settings are meant to work, because I'd really like to be able to play this game more freely.

Howdy!

Sorry to hear that the game isn't working properly for you. Here's some info that might help!

To clarify some of the 'Preferences' options:

  • The 'Filter' option disables planets based on kinks found there, so the options to travel there become inaccessible when you're on the bridge of your ship.
  • The 'Warnings' option adds warnings to planets hosting niche content when set to 'Low' and all planets when set to 'High'. The latter also adds some warnings to buttons that lead to niche content as well. Please keep in mind that the planet warning only triggers the first time you visit, and continuing past the warning disables it for next time. This option is still work-in-progress, and will be significantly more robust once the game is further in development.
  • The 'Flagging' option adds a brief summary to the location buttons when you're on the bridge of your ship.

To clarify the mutation and kink stuff:

  • There is a bug in Build 167 where having your mutations removed breaks the mutation blocklist. If you have a save from before 167 BugFix 1, please import it to the current build of the game and go through the mutation removal machine on your ship to reset your mutations, possible mutations, and blocked mutations.
  • The 'Kink blocklist' is just for kinks that your player character can develop if you push them into the same content over and over again. There isn't a way to remove Kinks you already have yet, but it'll be a feature at some point.
  • You can buy the 'Gene Profiler' at the 'Shipyard' location to pick and choose which mutations to keep and which ones to get rid of.

I was unable to replicate the Preferences settings changing after a few turns, beyond reloading or restarting the game. If you happen to encounter this again, please let me know exactly what you were doing in-game when it happened, so I can investigate further.

Hopefully this helped. Thanks for playing!

This is very helpful, I'm probably using an old save from Build 167, I'm not sure, but because I've been playing across multiple months that would not surprise me. I don't mind just restarting the game for that.

The only thing is, yes I was able to immediately replicate the content warning settings resetting themselves to low within a few turns. I checked every turn, and they seemed to shut off at the end of an encounter/scene. The specific scene was leaving Metris-2 after talking the gang leader into helping in the war, where there's some kind of traitor who gets caught and turned back into the leader. Once I was back on the bridge of my ship, the setting had changed from high back to low. I set it back to high after that, and went around the ship, slept, initiated some sex scenes, talked to crew members, went in and out of the bridge, and the setting stayed on high that entire time. It also stayed high when I went back to Metris-2 and interacted with several NPCs. I don't really know what specifically is causing it, maybe NON-repeatable/plot relevant scenes? But I do know it shuts itself off regularly for me, so it's not just that one exiting Metris-2 scene, but that's the only one that managed to trigger it for me in the few minutes of running around and checking.

Thank you for the detailed bug report! I'll be looking into this throughout the week, and I'll update the Demo files on Friday to fix it.
