the visual presentation & mechanical polish of this game is VERY strong, and has no major flaws or bugs.
the gameplay loop itself is a bit hard to get into for people not familiar with musical intonations or differntiating pitches, so the audience is somewhat specific for this game.
it was interesting trying to discern the correct notes for the first few stages and seeing how the music was structured was fascinating.
around the middle mark having to wait for the entire loop to go around before you could try and guess again and working on the same song melody 7 times in a row meant it got quite mentally exhausting for me and i couldnt really force myself to finish the game.
i'd love to give some suggestions and/or fixes but as this is a genre that i'm not familiar with, experimentation would be necessary.
overall, strong presentation but the game loop struggles with exhaustion and could do with some experimentation.
thank you! I 100% agree with everything being said here, I'm really happy with how the project turned out for a game jam regardless :D
Wow this game is oozing with style and is basically a completely functional minimalistic music trainer/teacher, really awesome job. The intro is so so so slick, as well the effects whenever you start a new level. Asides from some blurry edges of images/text, feels like stuff out of a fully developed (and especially stylish) game. I also really like the title theme and how you got to break it down at the end (although I had to bow out at that point got a bit too difficult for me). I just watched a video about approach notes and it was cool to be able to try it out through something like this (and I think reinforced the info as well).
I wish it was easier to identify where bars/beats started and ended (maybe some vertical bars in addition to the shading or something), and also would be nice if the patterns were maybe just 1 bar instead of 2 (and I think 4 at the end) given there's no seeking functionality as I spent a lot of time waiting to get back to the part of a beat I hadn't figured out yet, but overall this an extremely cool and polished project, especially for only 4 days, well done!
thank you very much! I especially agree with the visual communication concerns, I absolutely could've made things a bit clearer hahah
Appreciate you <3
Took me while to figure out what to do, but after that it was quite cool figuring out what sound happens when (as a non-musician). One bit of polish I personally would of liked is when you press an ear button (sorry for not knowing the terminology), but you already have another one selected, switch the selection to the new one instead of doing nothing (if that made sense).
I absolutely love the visualizer in the background and the music is phenomenal, good job!
thank you so much! yea that makes perfect sense, I def should've done that haha
HOLY CRAP! As a musician (i didn't have the time to make music for my game so I found some online but trust I do play music) and a game dev, I have to say this is INCREDIBLE. The amount of polish is genuinely insane (it feels fully completed even though you only had 4 days to make it) and helps learning rhythm theory too (which I kind of suck at). I'm keeping this on my computer to play later. Do you plan on releasing a mobile build?
gosh! thank you so much for the kind words, it means the world!
the whole game is in an unworkable state codewise because I had to rush things so much, so no real future plans for this :(
but tysm :D
This would be a really fun way to learn dictation in music theory class. I noticed too late that you can make certain tracks louder so you can hear them better, haha. I got most of the way through the game, and I could see myself coming back to this so I can complete it.
wow thank you so much! :D
