What's the best mindset to have in this situation?

I'm not a NSFW developer and I don't have interest in being one, but, something that I learned is that even Kirby games can get censored and deleted if the reasons are morally right enough. I don't want to stop developing, is my passion and I hope will soon be a second money income via donations. I want my cool and cute games to be played! And maybe that's your wish for your own games. So, how should we proceed?

I'm all for trying alternatives, but other than gamejolt I can't see one appropriate for my games. I'm also naive enough to try and post my games in itch despite all of this, not blindly of course, but for the sake of trying.

What do you think? What are you going to do?

You know what I find ironic is I'm designing a SFW game involving censorship and destruction of media, I started it last week and I have a prototype I showed my friend. It's a Twine game and I just have to put in one more action system and then it's ready for a public release which takes like a week lol...

As a NSFW developer, but not one that makes any money off it, I'm upset over the censorship in general. This is how things like the internet archive gets removed. This is how more and more things will get taken down and removed because "It offended my feewings"

Video games are art. Art is subjective. Because art is subjective, art can be viewed as offensive.

If you don't like it, I guess we gotta rip down Michelangelo's David, because that's absolutely NSFW.

'If you don't like it, I guess we gotta rip down Michelangelo's David, because that's absolutely NSFW.'  <- 'In 1857, Pope Pius IX ordered a large-scale mutilation of penises in the Vatican. Hundreds of sculptures were castrated and covered with plaster or bronze fig leaves. This act was part of an effort to censor nudity in art and reflected the strict morality imposed by the Church at that time.'  I did a copy/paste, sorry, but it really remembered me that case.

It looks like  the case above but pushed by a group of radical feminists in Australia named 'Collective shout'

There is not much to do, that depends. If i had to move my games to somewhere else. first I will buy a HDD of 1 or 2 Tb to save all my games and stuff (a local backup). Second, i would start searching for a way to start my own webpage, i would search  someone i could afford and is more 'free' in terms of what i could and could not upload and set up a alternative payment system that's not under the influence of Collective shout or, simply set it up in Bitcoin. But this one doesn't guarantee sellings because many people is not fond of cryptocurrencies or have a hard time getting use to it or simply acquiring it.

Sadly there is no 'right answer' as 'i'm going to X,Y,Z place now' Because the problem is with both worldwide  payment processors (as far as i know, i might be wrong).  I don't know if Payoneer, paypal or American Express doesn't apply to Collective shout's demands, but nothing guarantee they wouldn't eventually be used as part of this massive censorship.

By the way: 'I'm also naive enough to try and post my games in itch' <- You are not naive. You did basically what everybody does. Itch.io is a great place to share games, artwork, etc. The problem is not itch or steam or nintendo, the problem is with the payment processors.

I was referring to try to post my games on itch *despite* what's happening. Obviously not expecting the best, but because I don't see many options (and as you say, it affects everything with payment process) and it's better to try than not doing nothing.

Oh. Sorry i misunderstood. Well... i think a good point to start might be searching for Visa/Masterdar terms of services. Or at least what terms they make itch to follow. That way you can know what to and not to do (witch sucks because is a big creative limitation if you, for example, wanna talk about a 'hard theme' in a game) So.....

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

try to have a cold mindset? Like you say, is better try than doing nothing.

best mindset : NEVER use Visa or Mastercard ever again, give them 0 money

decide whats truly precious to you.

making software or using tits to get views.

its worked for me.

We're building https://altgames.io/, an alternative game marketplace for people who have been affected by the recent censorship. Feel free to send me a DM if you're interested, I'd love to chat.

I'm making my own website on Neocities and hosting games there. If hate groups want to censor art, make it as difficult as possible for them to censor everything. They may be able to censor a centralized storefront, but it'll be harder to censor thousands of small websites.
