They have been suppressing things for years now, mostly targeting Japanese websites and games from dlsite, fantia, pixiv, etc. Them going after itch and steam under the mask of collective shout is nothing more than what it is, a mask. The only people responsible are the payment processors.
Payment processors like MC/Visa go back and forth with supporting and denying payments with NSFW content (whereas eg Paypal rightout bans it). It depends on how they're informed about the platforms they're used in, like now how CS made them now aware of steam and itchio.
It is ridicilous to even think that Visa/MC are putting up this type of theather of CS being their "masked front", when before this they didn't have problems with processing NSFW games on steam/itchio. This is further evident by them being okay with accepting payments from Pornhub until they got sued about supporting the site. They don't have to do this "scooby doo CS masked front" masquerade when they allow all kinds of sources of money until they get in trouble with the law. They stop when they are bothered by law.
With this recent Visa/MC ban with NSFW games, the perpetrator is CS. Visa/MC didn't have problems with accepting payments with NSFW content (edit meaning nsfw games on steam/itchio) before CS started to pressure them. You think the billionaire elite would turn down money unless by law they have to? Everything happens in the dark before it's put into the spotlight.
I will admit I generalized my comment's beginning with the "global porn ban", my mistake. I should've said "recent porn ban with games", since it is true they've always been at odds with NSFW content.
If we are to generalize though, it is true that conservative, religious and bourgeoisie elite are the ones to blame, since they are who either control and/or manipulate each other.

I run in a lot of farther left circles and EVERYONE there is condemning this, this is a conservative thing; the far-right organization Collective Shout lobbied for this and that was the main reason it happened, there were no "woke people" involved.
