So far this is the game I had the most fun from the other jam games I've played! I love the art and the voice acting completely caught me off guard. now some suggestions I would have, tapping shift continuously can get tiring on the fingers. I would change the enemy bullet color so that it's easier to distinguish their shots from yours. also you could add audio control in the future, cause the music is a bit loud.  but in general the flying, while a bit floaty, feels good, I like killing the enemy by drifting sideways next to the enemy bot and shooting to the side.

also I found a bug you might want to fix in the future, you can shoot, and destroy the green asteroid from far enough away than when the dialogue starts, if you do that the game doesn't continue, but generally. Great job, I hope you continue working on this game. maybe some upgrades and stuff?

Thank you for taking the time to play and review my little jam game =)

I'm happy you are having fun with it! I am working on a new build that incorporates feedback. I plan to release after the judging period is over. I have already implemented the ability to 'autofire' by holding the attack button down . So you'll will be able to fire each time you presses the attack button, or just hold it down to autofire instead. I was also thinking about having the asteroids break up into smaller asteroids like the classic Asteroids game.

I appreciate you informing me about the music being a tad too loud. I'll lower it a bit in the next build. I'll consider adding a volume control in the future.

I had to reuse the same 'bullet' for the saucer ships as I did for the Cadet Ship because I ran out of time, but I'll look into this idea.

Thank you for pointing out the bug. I intended to have Cadet Ship's weapons 'locked down' until you move her ship close to the Green Asteroid, but I was under time pressure and I forgot to add it. I'll address this in my next build.

I'm not sure what I want to do with the game after the judging period is over other than putting out the new build I'm working on that addresses issues and incorporates some of the suggestions giving here. But I will think about extending the game and adding upgrades/power-ups.

I updated my game if you want to give it another go.

sure I do, I like it, the hold shift is a nice improvement... although I still kept spamming because it was faster :). I like that the game looks cleaner now with the shadows and stuff.  the map with the outline looks way cleaner, and the green border for the edge of the map is a good addition too. also I see you fixed the bug with being able to preemptively destroy the green asteroid. great job, hope to see more added to your game in the future
also do the different enemies move at different speeds now or am I just imagining things?

(1 edit)

Being able to shoot faster by pressing the shoot button repeatedly was an intentional choice - you get a benefit if you put in the extra effort =)

You are not imagining things. Each saucer ship is giving a random speed from a limited range to make them more interesting. Also, they are now each a different color so you can better tell them apart. There is also a little arrow indicator that circles around your ship that points to the nearest enemy saucer ship (or the green asteroid) to help you track them.

yeah I've noticed that too, the little arrow is a great addition, before I found myself flying around for a while just trying to find them, now it's way easier
