These are a few ground rules. Not following them may result in disqualification.

Follow itch.io’s Terms of Service
Your entry must comply with all of itch.io’s rules and Terms of Service.

Respect copyright and licensing
You are fully responsible for the assets used in your game.
By uploading your game or any materials, you confirm that you have the rights to use and distribute everything included.

Always check the licenses of assets — do they allow use in games?

If you share your game’s source code (optional), make sure it’s clear whether the assets can be redistributed with it.

No real-world attacks or targeted mockery
Entries should not depict or make fun of real people or real events.
This jam is meant to unite the game dev community — not divide it.
You absolutely can make a game that celebrates fun instead of hate! 🙂

The game in it's entirety or a meaningful portion of the game has to be made during the jam.
If some part of the game was prepared before the jam, you HAVE to include a clear description in the submission page about what has been done during the jam and what before it.
If you created a simple game specially for this jam but BEFORE the jam started (e.g. to show support) - also make it clear in the description.
Be transparent.
You are required to provide a note describing what has been done pre-jam and what added during jam.
Adding an already finished game for promotional reasons or not providing transparency note WILL
result in entry being deleted or disqualified.

💬 Need clarification? If you think your idea might violate any of the rules, feel free to ask in the “Help” topic or message this account directly. I reserve the right to consult the Stop Killing Games Discord community in case of doubt — after all, I’m just a guy here 😄

What Does Transparency Mean For This Game Jam

(+1)

It means that you must be honest what you did before the jam, and in the jam

Joined the jam before that was a requirement and I totally get it but not sure I should add my project now. I actually started in May and I've worked on it a few hours a week since. I'm not an experienced developer and have never released a project but was getting to the point where I thought I could at least share a demo and then this game jam launched and I thought, oh cool, takes the pressure off sharing something as an introvert when a bunch of people are, haha. I've actually put in a ton of work since, anticipating releasing it for this jam - but now it feels unfair, even as a complete novice. Not that I feel I'll "win" anything, just that time makes such a huge difference with these things and maybe some aspects of mine will be more polished than others, but only because I had way more time.

I should probably skip this one?

It’s up to you. To me personally (PotatoGameDev) it’s ok, as long as you are clear about it:) If you decide to submit, write it down in the transparency note and the people will judge you by that. You might not win, because one of criteria is “Jam authenticity”, so people will give you zeros for making everything before the jam. This jam is mainly for fun and support of the movement, so I wouldn’t overthink it. If the community disagrees, please share your opinion!

I appreciate the fast response! Really not wanting to win anything or compete against anyone with an unfair advantage so I've no problem adding a transparency note. Just liked the jam, theme fit, finally gave me a push to share what I've been working on. But I don't want to look like I'm taking advantage of anything and am the master of overthinking :)

Hey, a quick question. Can I reuse my music that I've made before the jam? As it currently stands, it seems to me that I can I just need to specify that explicitly. Is that right?

Yes you got it. And you got the idea of the transparency note

Hello, where should I put the note? Should it be with the game files?

on the submission page, look at other contesters for examples some of them are really great

Just realized that the other submissions are not yet visible, only the organizers see them :)

When submitting your game you will find a field “Transparency note” that is mandatory. You will not be able to submit it without putting something there:)
