thanks for the comments. We did have a rating queue to discourage cheating (you could only rate 5 games at a time). Did the rating queue work, we forgot to check!

In the future only one submission per team to get a better representation of the top 10 may help.

Even though anyone could vote, I think some of the results were fair. Still, there were games that deserved to be in the top 10 but ended up missing out.

In the next Game Jam, you could review the top 10 and choose your top 3. I think that would be fairer for everyone.

yeh i think you got confused somewhere... thats literally how its implemented now.

community votes for top 10, and then the host gets to pick top 3 from the top 10... thats literally how it works

what were arguing is that the judge shud vote from all the entries and not only the top 10, due to the fact that cheating the community vote is super easy... all you have to do is vote your game to get into the top 10, and vote 1 stars on everyone else so they dont get into top 10... ensuring you dont really have any competition, since the judge wud only get to pick from the top 10... which in this scenario would consist of the worst game in the jam or your all game submissions, ensuring that you win the jam.

that would be so lame if someone did that. Voted 1 star on everything else so they could get in the top 10

it happens... like alot, nearly every jam ive joined with a prize has it happen. limiting the voting to submitters and having a large pool of submissions help negate the 1star spams... but still discouraging to see it happen, really wish ITCH.IO has more effective ways to moderate jams. when i hosted B1T Jam, ive partnered up with Jamlytics to help moderate and catch cheaters... helps reasure any participants that the jam is safe and fair.

winning/losing a jam is more fun when its fair, having cheaters around ruins the experience.

I also think that’s unfair. There are some great games that didn’t make it into the top 10. I recommend that LightBearSoftware take a look at them.

And it is way easier to do when even the non submitters can vote as there is no way of moderating it.
