Is loading still slow for people using the window's download? Combat is still a bit slow as well, but not as badly as before. At this point, i'm wondering if this is a "me" problem, and if so, how I go about fixing it.
A successor to first Strive For Power game, currently at alpha stage · By
I haven't used the current Windows versions much, so this could be wrong, but I think if you go to the folder where Strive is installed, where the Strive for Power 2.exe file is, and right click on an open space, you will get an option to open the Command Line. It will open a window with a black background and look like this:
C:\Program Files\Strive for Power 2\
Or something like that. Then at the flashing prompt you type 'Strive for Power 2.exe' without the quotes and the game will launch. But in the window it launched from, which you can tab to, the game will display some information at start, and as you play it will include any errors that occur. If you take an action in the game and see an error generated, that could be a bug that you can report, for instance.
If there are a whole crapload of errors, in the thousands, that can cause slowdowns, but if there are not, the issue is somewhere else.
Launching a program that way is actually how it works when you double click an icon, just it has been automated for you and happens out of sight, maybe with some modifiers added as well so the program runs a certain way.
Instead of using 'Strive for Power 2.exe' to open the game use 'Strive for Power 2 - console.bat'. It should be just above it in the Strive for Power 2 folder. That will open the console window when the game starts.
There is also a log folder in your %appdata%/Roaming/Strive for Power 2/mods that will have the same information.
So I just downloaded the 0.11.0e version, and it still runs slow, along with still having status effects on my characters. At this point, would just making a new game save help in any of this, or would these problems still happen? I really want to play, but with everything taking so long for me, its a chore just to load and save stuff, let alone try and do dungeons.
Same, game runs beyond slow once you reach a certain time period in the game, after that it's just a massive lag that prevents anything from being done, i can turn autosave off and it stops the stuttering but only outside of dungeons, however should i try to manually save, i might as well walk away from my pc for an hour cause it bricks the game and takes my pc to a screeching halt, if a solution is found plz lemme know.
These slow updates and save times seem to caused by an acumulation of errors that can corrupt save files. I was having this issue, so I did a completely new install with 11.0e. I'm now on the 3rd arc with about 15 characters. No ingame lag, manual save time time is fine, autosave time is a little slow. I do watch the console like a hawk and save and quit if there are any errors shown in the console. So far none has corrupted a save as has happened in the past. Generally if the console or log file are filled with error it is very likely to corrupt the save when you save. My quess is the long save times are due to the save process trying (and failing) to prodess all the errors. But doing a completely clean install seems to have cured the issue. Also using old mods is not good
So I need to completely delete strive conquest from my laptop, and re-download the newest version, If I want it to be normal speed again? Is that what I'm understanding from your explanation? Because that's not a problem, I will do it, but I don't want to lose my saves for nothing. Did that with a game on my phone, lost all the stuff I had on it, characters, items, real money I had yet to spend. It's made me paranoid about deleting stuff.
I did start over from nothing. I know its hard to give up saves that you've invested time and thought plus interesting gear and character. With this round of updates though some (many?) of the error result in corrupted save files. It is difficult to rescue them once this happens. You might try putting your old save in a seperate folder, then do a complete new install and start a new game. If you still get slow save and load times then send you save file and a log file for that instance to Mavrik. This will help him with debugging and save you favorite save from being corrupted. Its an enjoyable game but basically we are all doing beta testing.
