I could not gasp all the details, but I like the idea. I miss something that shows the inventory, maybe some icon on the top of the screen. With few iterations I feel it can be a good try for a commercial game.
I'm not shure about it, but maybe you just hit the enter, and there is a "hands" manu, where you can locate the two possibile item in your left and right hand.
