this is such a weird and miserable take lmao why would more options so guys and non-binary people can play in new otome games even affect you??

I'm referring to when a game that doesn't specify if the person is a man or woman, the LIs don't really feel fleshed out. It's like the devs are trying to pander to both TL and BLs. There are quite a few games meant for both men and women to play. I'd dare to say, there's more games like what I'm referring to than there are TL indie Western games.

Did I say it's wrong to be either of those things or attack you personally? No. I am only sharing my thoughts and gratitude. Well, technically also my opinion. Opinions are like arseholes, everyone has one. Doesn't mean you have to like mine or the smell.

I mean I think that’s just an overarching issue with self insert characters in general when they want to make a female lead or a male lead relatable for their audience they just leave as many things vague or blank as possible like not drawing their eyes etc so I do agree with that point

but it doesn’t stem from gender it’s just a different approach to writing a main character for a game or show that someone can “immerse” themselves in which often does fall flat unfortunately but they could still make a fleshed out interesting main character with a strong personality that also has an option for different pronouns :3

I understand if they didn't label the game an Otome and left it alone as a VN. That's 100% completely understandable and I'd be the arsehole to hop on a soapbox whinging about two genders.

When I got into Otomes games, I was so fascinated by those who self-inserted. They get to see the game from a different perspective and likely discover things I've missed in each playthrough/route.

I apologise for how my comments may have came across. Not even two hours I put my foot in my mouth again, when talking to my dad. LOL.

I hope we both can enjoy the game! There's been some beautifully done doujin/indie(?) Yandere Otomes and BLs lately via Itichio. Did you ever play that one BL, it had 300+ votes on Reddit. The MC broke up with his Yandere boyfriend from childhood and there's even a prequel. 😻.

The art was so beautiful. I just dropped my vape in sink water, BRB going to cry and try drying it out. 😭. I'll come back with the name/link in five.

"Otome" (乙女) = Japanese for "girl" or "young woman."

(+5)

Thank you! That's exactly what I'm trying to say. Otome isn't meant for boys to be the main character romancing boy MLs. That's what BLs are for. However, people seem to not understand what Otome means or they're trying to change the definition of it.

(+6)

People have been trying to do that for years, and I'm sick of it. Also, I think you really didn't need to aplogise to that other poster. You did nothing wrong by pointing out Otome=female, and the other poster is clearly one of those individuals insisting on changing definitions.

(+5)

You're right, I've seen a huge increase in people demanding and trying to change the definition of Otome! They have so many, not just a dozen but at least a hundred or more VNs to play - that aren't Otome but have both genders - and they're free for the most part. I personally feel the people who ask and get angry about these things, only do it to small time, doujin or Western indie Devs. Because they're not as big as Otomate or Rejet and risk getting cancelled.

They're being the exact bullies, they envision Otome makers to be. Not that I've seen anyone do this in this game's comment section but I've seen at least ten people ask about pronouns and gender, when people remind them it's an Otome and not a visual novel or BL - they ignore that it's a girl's game.

Thank you for validating my concerns and frustrationsm 😭😭🖤

Lol, yeah. Any time I try to point any of this out, the eternally offended brigade show up and start slinging words like "bigot" around and other nonsense, while acting like I've committed some heinous crime. Like I had to tell others, language is meant to make communicating easier, not harder, and trying to change the definitions of words whenever you feel like it does the exact opposite of that. It's super gross how they overuse words like homophobia too, which just serves to cheapen the word, considering actual homophobia still exists in the world. The various Arab nations where being homosexual is punishable by death under their laws come to mind.

There's a reason all the sane gays, bi and trans folks are trying to distance themselves from all this nonsense.

Thank you, I seriously felt like I was going mental - seeing so many people on Twitter and when I'm brave enough Tumblr - throwing tantrums about Otome games not inclusive enough. They're trying to change definitions and they're so blinded by thinking they're correct, they take the meaning of certain words away.

Like you said, true homophobia isn't excluding male characters from an Otome game. It's not 99% of what they've cooked up or are offended by. Sharia Law, Arab countries and sadly a lot of Southern states in N America are like that. 😭

Seriously, the sane Gays, Bis and Trans folk - I love and support wholeheartedly. They aren't jumping on soapboxes 24/7.
