I would have been really creeped out with someone staring in through the windows (those blank eyed stares can are creepy enough as it is).
With the darkness bug, there are only a couple fixes to try that I'm aware of:
- Press the Reset button under Graphics, then slide the gamma and resolution sliders up.
- Or find the settings file and delete it. It can be found here: C:\Users\YourUserName\AppData\Local\ShopSim\Saved\SaveGames
