I'll see if I can take the hard drive out, but I also need to a buy a thing to make it able to be read by another pc. Hopefully things work out in my favor.
Depending on how savvy you feel, you could try popping open another PC (if you have one that the hard drive would fit in) and switching the drives temporarily (just to move the data off).
Sik is right though -- hard drives Do die, but it's rare. You should be able to recover your data pretty easily.
